Default Cohassett Rd. NorCal

I have a friend off another forum from the Bay Area that came up last night and spent the night here. He wanted to do some mild wheeling so we went up Cohassett Rd. It has mixed ownership so is not maintained and only gets a little better, at least from our perspective every year. It has lots of wash outs, large puddles in the winter and a half dozen mud holes in the wet season capable of swallowing a Jeep. The grades are long with big changes in altitude, so a good cooling system is required and a small lift is recommended. A stock rig could make it, but would be bottoming out in a few places.

The view into the Ishi Wilderness from about 4000'

Sometimes the road is narrow with steep drop offs.

Yes, lots of volcanic stuff poking up in this area. Further down the road is a piece of lave called black rock. A single piece of lava pushed up the size of a small mountain.

The next place I go will probably be a place called High Lakes. The Cohassett area is very warm this time of year and is best left to spring and fall runs. The trouble is that High Lakes has been snowed in. It is probably just getting accessible this week or next. Both of these areas have loads of wheeling with varied difficulty and cannot be explored in one day.
