Default 2001 Alternator removal

Help!

I have a 2001 cherokee sport, 4.0 with a/c. My check gauges light came on and the battery gauge went to zero. The alternator wasnt charging the system.

I bought a new alternator but how the heck do I get the old one out? I'm pretty good at working on my own Jeep but this has me stumped.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
kurt

Moved to correct section.

First you disconnect the negative battery cable.
Then you remove the serp belt.
Then disconnect the cables that go to the alt
Then there are two bolts that hold the alt on, remove those and you are golden.

Yea I see that, but I cant loosen the belt? I see the tensioner on the power steering pump but which bolts do I loosen to get it to move. I beleive it is two bolts. The one on the top is easy to get to but where is the other?

Thanks

You need to loosen the pulley itself first just a little bit then loosen the tensioner pulley.

It can be a pain in the butt. It took me forever to get it out and back in. The bracket was stiff so I had to wiggle a it a little at a time.
