Default 2WD to 4WD conversion

Hello again, Thanks for all the info on previous post!

Just got back from 4Wheeling (in 2WD) and i've gotta say, WOW... Cherokee's rule! Granted, i stayed on the trails and used a little bit of sanity but, still that ride really went to some "nowhere" places. As in my last post, i won't be getting a 4WD parts rig until spring time. I will be waiting patiently and gathering more information on what seems to be, an easy swap.

Again, I already have a 3" lift and 31-10.50X15's installed. I will be adding a Dana 30, AW4(4WD), and most likely, a NP231. My question that never really got a reply is about adding a 4:1 reduction to my X-case, to compliment the lockers and gears.

I'm seeking advice from the people that know. Would this be money best spent elsewhere on this non-rock crawling, daily driver? I don't know that much about the TeraFlex 4:1. As a "converted" Toyota buff, i know that the Marlin Crawler reduction box is required with the little 22R motor, if there's any real 4wheeling to be done. I do realize that the 4.0L is a power plant that has no problem moving the wheels but, i'm concerned about blowing the tires off or burning up the tranny? Am i just underestimating the toughness and finesse of the Cherokee?

You definitely do not need to worry about "blowing the tires off" or blowing up the tranny. Speaking of transmissions, it would probably be wise to install a tranny cooler if you were not already planning on it.

If you do feel like you need a better crawl ratio, it would be easier (and probably cheaper) just to regear the axles.

EDIT: just re-read your post and realized that you were already planning on regearing. In that case, regearing and 4:1 t-case would probably be too low if you are only planning on staying on 31's.
