Default '99 Cherokee will not start

My 1999 Cherokee will not start.
I get no spark from the coil.
I tested the primary to the coil and do not get any voltage when trying to start.
I replaced the computer and it still will not start.
I released the pressure from the fuel manifold and it does not build back up.
Switched relays and still cannot hear the pump run nor does it build pressure.
Will the sensor/computer keep the coil from generating spark?

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

I may say this a lot but check your ASD relay under the hood. They will cause this too and is sometimes overlooked.

I swapped the relays around and they all are good.

just a silly question and I am assuming that it cranks over right or you would not know if it was getting spark or not?

Knock sensor, Cam sensor, crank sensors could cause it not to start. Chilton's manual will tell you how to check them.

I'm sure you already tested the battery right?

Default battery

Mudd is right about the battery......also check your battery cables and connections. Sometimes the wire gets corroded underneath the plastic sheath but you cannot tell until you cut it open or test the continuity of it. This may allow your vehicle to crank over but if it is not getting the proper juice, it will not fire.

I actually had a vehicle misfire because of a bad battery.

I put a code reader on it and got code P1694.
Any ideas on what this code means.

Ok, this is what i found out.

P1694
Fault In Companion Module
No CCD/J1850 messages received from the powertrain control module-Asian transmission.

P1694 (M)
No BUS CCD Messages Received from ECM
Bus communication failure to PCM.

What do I need to do to fix it?

Sorry, I do not have my book on hand and do not remember off hand what the code is for. Try calling a dealer before they close or wait till monday and give them the information, they may be able to point you in the right direction.

A faulty ignition switch could possibly cause those symptoms...

After doing an extensive thread search, it sounds like it could be a faulty CPS.

This is what found for ya...

XJ No start. Getting code P1694 - NAXJA Forums -::- North American XJ Association

I replaced the crankcase position sensor and all is now well.
It turns out that when the CPS shorts (and it was), the computer
shuts down to prevent damage to itself. As a result, no communication (P1694).

Thanks to all who posted.
