Default Blown head gasket...

found some oil in the antifreeze this morning. anyone change their head gasket before??? any tips or things to look for when doing it? 2000 4.0 I6

first, are you sure its the head gasket? If it definitely is itll be about a 6 hr job maybe a little more depending on issues. You need to take off the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, all the necessary electronics. You should get new headbolts as well. BTW Do you have a Chiltons manual?

just assuming. where else can oil get into the antifreeze? oil in the anti-freeze and the motor oil was low.

going to pick up a manual today.

If it's a cracked head, I'd be more worried about milky oil, and not oil in the coolant....

Cody did you run a compression check? Watch the coolant jug with the Jeep running and warm enough for the thermostat to be open. Look for bubbles in the jug.

If he has a blown head gasket, doesn't the head need to be checked for warping? 6 hours!??!?! If you've done it 3 times before.

What happened prior to you finding coolant in the water? Did you overheat it?

you shure the internal trans cooler in the radiator didnt puke? ive seen it happen (on gm's) also according to my machinist 4.0 is common for heads to crack so make shure wen and or if you take it off get it checked out by a professional
