Went 4 wheelin yesterday and on the way home found out that headlights didn't work. Even front side marker lights don't work either.
Started checking out the issue today and found that front turn signals don't work as they should. When I apply either side the Hazard switch kicks in as well as the high beam indicator flash all together.
The taillights works fine though.
Disconnected the wiring harness by the air box and probed with a volt meter. It's getting current when I apply headlight switch, turn signal, and high beam, as well as marker lights. I'm thinking I have a bad ground some where and voltage is bleeding back through the other circuits to complete the path. Any ideas until my "Chiltons" for the '96 Jeep comes in.
Thanks

Really does sound like bad ground...
Did you get into water or mud?

I kinda remember a simular thread awhile back ago and the problem was a open Fusible Link on the back of the Alternator?

Hoping the "real" electrical Guru's will chime in!

Default no lights

Did you unplug the connectors and look inside......that is a very common area where they plug in to get corrosion and sometimes from rubbing against the metal, they will short out by grounding themselves on metal. Take a look and if you have a problem either replace the harnes or plug. I had this problem on a few of my jeeps and what I did was cut the plug out completely and got some heat wrap for wire and took a connector and crimped them and added a little dielectric grease and then heat shrinked them with the heat wrap. Never had a problem again.

Didn't get into any real mud or water to speak of. I have taken the connector apart and gave it a couple of shots of Deoxit, hoping that helps. Were do the lights ground at?
Thanks

Thanks for the info, the connector was totally corroded. This fall I'm replacing the connector then I shouldn't have anymore issues. Thanks for the heads up saved me a lot of time and money.
