Default Crank sensor maybe ???

Sometimes on my new 98 it will crank and crank and no start. Turn off the key and try again and fires up ! Could it be a crank sensor ? hanent looked into it yet too much. The nice thing is my 96 for some reason has all the same guts so I can start swapping ****. Strange that all sensors and wiring on my 96 are parts for 98 and up. My 96 is Trooper and my new 98 is now called Moe. The paint is Moss green so thats how it got Moe as a name. Trooper has ran for 236,000 with my wife driving it for 10 miles pegged at 260 to get home because the water pump pulley fell off. Didn't even need a head gasket so its a Trooper. I know you don't give a **** lol.

Fuel pressure. Turn your key on for two seconds and then crank. Or turn on for two seconds and off and back on for two seconds. It will crank right up.

Check to see if your getting spark and fuel at the same time.....possible ASD relay too.

Yes, it could be your crank sensor too

I know where the ASD relay is and tried that fuel pressure thing before with no change. The cap and rotor were horrible so I cleaned them up hoping that was it with no success. Thats why i was thinking crank sensor.

my 89 does this... all the time. i have my electric fan on a manual switch. i found that if i leave it on while i go into a store or somewhere im only going to be at for a short time/couple hours that my jeep will start 1st try. but if i dont leave it on the jeep takes 3 to sometimes 6 trys to start it... i would love to solve this problem... im going to check into the ASD.

My red 1990 XJ Laredo is Roscoe. My wife's Accord is Bailey.

Hooray for named vehicles!

Could it be a bad coil? A coil can work sometimes and other times not....can't remember if you checked spark or not?

I had similar problem recently with my 98. Replaced the CPS, and have had no problems since. It was also generating a multiple mis-fire check engine light. Good luck.
