Default seal leakage

Is it leaking in the front of the pan or rear? I have a very effective repair for both.

Just bought mine with 99K on it so I have not settled on what to use yet. Although I use purolator filters pretty exclusively. I threw in some 5w30 and purolator filter to get through the winter.

I am thinking of giving this Motorcraft synthetic blend a try. It is pretty cheap and it seems to get very good reviews with the oil snobs on BobistheOilGuy.com.

The 5w30 seems pretty noisy, so I am looking forward to 10w30 soon, and hopefully smooth things out a bit.

I am a big Mobil 1 fan, I just dont want to switch to full syn this late in the game with the jeep.

6 1/2 qts of Mobil 1 10w/30 synthetic with a Mobil 1 M1-301 oversized filter. No leaks but I replaced VC gasket before I changed over to synthetics.

if you guy;s really and truely want to know how your fluids, tranny, engine, etc., are stacking-up you need to contact BLACKSTONE Laboratories. Go online and sign -up for a free, yes free, test kit, you will need 1 per each fluid to be tested. VERY IMPORTANT AND I FORGET MORE THAN I WANT ADMIT, TAKE WHICHEVER FLUID TO BE TESTED DIRECTLY FROM THE COMPONENT WITH THE FLUID TO BE TESTED-don't wait until it's in the drain pan!! Go online and they will mail you the kit free of charge. Cost's for the testing, you determine, range from $25 to $45 and tell you more about your fluids and the amount of wear that you want to know. Try it, it's a very smart investment.

What are you using to bring intake air into the stroker?? Bigger TB, TB Spacer, Cold Air Kit, or even multi-air intakes? Not muulti TB's just multi air intakes? These are very custom but provide the much needed air to the por starved and stroked 4L.

sounds interesting, when I use 10/40 Castrol my lifters bag like there is no tomorrow. I need the thicker velocity of the oil, only in the summer I live in MS, as i have 143K solid miles on the vehicle but the banging around only means that other parts are deprived of "first-start" protection. PROBABLY SHOULD JUMP DOWN TO THE 5w-10W FOR WINTER?!

Cheap oil is like a "one night stand and having to perform the coyette chew"!! Dude, spend the small bit of extra cash. It's like running premium or low grade regular. If you plan om keeping it then buy some decent oil. In your case, just guessing, it doesn't have to be synthetic.

Dude, oil is oil. As long as it lubricates the engine, I'm ok. Who really gives a **** about synthetic and all that crap. My jeep is 20 years old and I really do not care about wasting money I don't have on something I don't really need.

You get quoted as part of what I am writing here but its more directed at everyone in the last few posts.

Lets look at the way multi-viscosity oils work.....

When an oil is multi-viscosity rated...say 5w-30 vs. single weight SAE 30, The number before the W is the effective viscosity at 0 degrees. Whereas the later number is the effective viscosity at operating temperatures.

In contrast a single weight is the same effective viscosity at all temperature ranges.

Now at operating temperatures there is no difference in the effective viscosity of 5w-30,10w-30,SAE30 or any other oil with a 30 viscosity rating. Now at a given temperature this does not mean that all 30 weight oils will be exactly the same viscosity. What it means is that all 30 weight oils will be within a certain range of viscosity.

Colder temperatures is where the multi-viscosity oils really shine through. But the same idea applies. All 5w-X oils are in the same viscosity range.

So switching to a 10w-X oil from a 5w-X because you are getting lifter noise at cold start up is going the wrong direction.

89 Jeep Guy.... To put it simply oil is not oil anymore. 25 years ago, 90%+oils on the markets were very close to the same thing. But that simply isn't the case any longer. With increasing EPA regulations, and advancing automotive technology today's lubricants are VERY different than even ones five years ago. Most of the cheap oil is now API-SM rated The levels of protective elements in the SM rated oils have dropped due to EPA regulations to levels below what flat-tappet camshaft engines (like our Jeep motors) need for wear protection.

I hate owning my pos Jeep in the first place so I'm not going to dump loads of money into oil. I already drain my wallet in parts. Also oil is oil. As long as you have the correct viscosity for your engine its fine.

Because I am not a money pit. I bought the car for $500 because my other car was totaled. I have had nothing but bad experiences with it and cannot wait until the day I can proudly say I'm not a Jeep owner anymore.
