What gas mileage are you getting around town and open road. My 1996 gets about 17 to 20 around town at 65 to 70 with a/c on 23 to 25 eng 4.0 I have found out the gas with ethanol will cut down gas mileage some

MPG is dependent on many things. Tire size, gear ratio, added armor, 2wd/4wd, roof racks, etc...

I have a 99 4wd 4.5"lift, winch, c4x4 front bumper w/ brush guard, a rockhard4x4 rearbumper, a tcase skid... 31's miscellaneous tools in the back probably 12 in town and 14-16 on the highway...

if I put my safari rack on w/ the spare tire up top and the jack ... you get the picture it's probably about 12.x on the highway.

What gears? 33's make quite a bit of rolling resistance...

You're right lil read, but even 8/10 combo is really low for his setup. I'm running 4.5" with 33x12.50s and 3.55 gears and average about 12-13 in town and 16-17 on the highway.

I definately think that this goes deeper than just tires/lift/gears.

Guys, I'm sorry, but a brick gets lousy MPG...

Maybe mine has a problem that. I've just accepted. Everything I have ever lifted, put bigger tires on, has gotten worse MPG's than better...

W/ the exception of maybe a tuned-up Cummins diesel... Anyway, maybe I need to replace all of my 02 sensors, catalytic converter, and my ....

Ummm... on 2nd thought maybe not.

I've got 4.10's, and 31's so my speedo is reading fast... Even when it was stock the best I got was 18.7 or so...

I read a XJ Jeep mileage article (if I can find the link I'll post it). They were doing things to the XJ to increase mileage. They would make a change and drive 500 to 800 miles to be sure what the effect of the change was.

All of the sudden they dropped from 16/17 to 13/14 mpg. Then the power steering pump froze up. They replaced it and the mpg instantly rose back to the 16/17 mpg.

I'm not saying it's your power steering pump, but keep in mind things that the engine has to turn on the front can make a huge difference in your MPG.
