Homemade Roof Rack Pics

I just acquired a lumber rack and i'm about ready to cut it up and weld it together.

I will probably be using my existing Yakima rack rail mounts with 1 1/8" round tubes for mounting. Rack size will be 48"X60"X5 1/2" and the frame will be out of 1 1/4" square tube. I think the floor will be made out of 3/4" EMT riveted to the frame. Not sure yet on what to do for a spare tire mount yet.

I'm also considering getting a set of Rain Gutter Mounts, as well...

Im gonna be picking up a welder sometime next month & a roof rack is going to be my first project. Can't wait to see how yours turns out!

has potential, any updates on this project? I know its over a month old thread but I'm interested in homeade roof rack options and wanted to see how it turned out.

I am going to biuld one for my XJ as soon as we are done putting the leaf springs back in. I am just going to use a couple of metal Futon frames, I already have them and will cut and mig weld it together. The frames have rounded corners on them and should come out looking just as good as store bought.
