Thoughts on this XJ?

1990 JEEP CHEROKEE - $500
Good body, no dents, almost no rust, interior dirty, but still good. Does need motor(threw a rod), was my daughters car, planned to fix, but now need to sell. I have another 4.0 motor that came from garage in goochland, it is on engine stand, Motor will turn, but can't tell you anything else about it, except was supposed to be good, paid 350.00 for it. It has A/C, PS, PB, auto trans and four wheel drive. You get it all, motor, motor stand and the jeep. Will to tow or trailer
|
Seems like a pretty good deal if I can get him to tow it to the city. Figure I can get some money back out of the motor stand too after I'm done with it. Never swapped a 4.0 but I've done some chevy small blocks and have really nothing but time to get it in there and if nothing else I could probably get some help from my friendly neighborhood jeep club.

Sounds like a good deal if you like wrenching and want something to mess around with.
Are wanting a daily driver or trail rig?

Sounds like a good deal to me with the motor swap does not bother you that much.

Little bit of both, but I've got the time to spend working on it and I live in the city so I can still take the bus til I'm actually able to drive it.

Nah it doesn't. I've got plenty of time to mess with it and it's not the first I've done so I have some idea about what all I need to do.

I thought the same, but even if it is they're easy to find and they're only like $50 in the junkyards around here.

What are your plans for the XJ? DD or Wheeler or both?
Either way, its still a decent deal. 4.0 swaps aren't that bad at all. If you want a project go for it. Either way, you might be able to talk the guy down from $500 even a little bit as well.

Read the 4th post.
Yeah I'll see if he'll take less once he hauls it here, if not $500 isn't bad by any means and well under what I was looking to spend anyway.

looks like a good project! if you plan on using it as a double duty vehicle (trail and daily) i'd suggest an a/t tire instead of a mud-terrain. it'll be a little better-mannered on the road.

If you're referring to my sig, I sold one and gave the other away. I had the 4 door and picked up a 2 door 5 speed and then sold the 4 door. Long story short I dumped a ton of money into the 2 door then lost my job and in the end had to donate it to my local jeep club because I couldn't sell it and couldn't afford insurance anymore and didn't have any place to keep it without tags.

Yeah, VA is pretty loose about equipment laws. I was going to chop the back off it and weld a cage in. Even have a soft top sitting at my parents I'd had to use for it.
