Hey WJ, My wife was born and raised in Astoria. All familiar stuff. Great wheeling around there if you like Mud. Fun to drive on the beach there down by Battery Russell. Did you get wet there?

We were in the wife's Mazda 3...So we kept it on the road

The mud tires kind of get annoying when you're spending a good part of your day on the paved road....that, and I like the speedy cornering power in her car. Jeep no so good in that department

Oh...and the Mazda sucks about a third of the fuel.

What are the laws regarding exploring trails in state parks or driving on the beach there anyway? Are you allowed to do that sort of thing?

You used to be able to drive on any beach. But now vehicle access is restricted to about half of the beaches. In State parks, you can explore any road unless marked no access. Same on federal land. But don't get off the trails.

I'd like to do the trip again during the fall while the sea is a little more feisty...I think there'd be some pretty nice scenery and pics to be taken...

Great pics!

Never made it any further north up the coast, past the "dunes" around Florence.

Come to think of it, The SW kinda sucks...
