Default technicality question (guns ... i love texas

on 15 hour drives you talk about every thing and anything with the people in the car with you ....
this came up

"it is not illegal (in texas) to drive around with a loaded shot gun on a gun rack in your pickem up truck ... or laying across the center console when your rear window is too far away to reach"

first off wtf?
second has anyone done this ?
third ... i think i want to ...
do yall see any potential trouble with the law?

I don't know if it's legal or not to carry a loaded shotgun on a rack here in Ohio but I see a lot of people that do it especially during white tail gun season.

I read somewhere that it against the law to shoot the top off a can of beans to get them open and you are only aloud to hit your wife with a 2" wide leather strap, no more no less, in Texas. Crazy.

It's been a few years since I read it, I'll try to find a link.

did a little more searching and found this ...

QUOTE:
You are allowed to have any legally purchased firearm in your vehicle as long as it is concealed- no, gun racks are not concealments. Handgun, shotgun, rifle, assault rifle- loaded or unloaded (what's the point)- you can have it in your car at all times, anywhere you go, as long as it is concealed. You don't need a special license, you can carry it on you (concealed) from your home to you car and from your car to your home.

Long car rides can be awkward.

Stamp, as far as I know, it is illegal in most states to carry a loaded firearm in a rack. It is a safety thing.

A lot of states (especially Western) allow you to drive with guns not in cases and loaded magazines just not one in the chamber.

I wish the Nazis in WI would lighten up the laws. Way to much loading/unloading, casing/uncasing when I'm hunting. Oh but it's for my own safety! BS!

Arizona allows concealed carry for anything and they can have a round chambered without any type of permit. Traffic stops are loads of fun, you have to figure everyone is armed and a threat. G-d help you if you have a weapon in the vehicle, are stopped and don't keep your hands glued to the steering wheel.

It also depends on your location too...out here in the boonies people do it all the time. It's a part of life and Im not about the hassle a farmer or hunter for doing it.
If you were to drive through downtown austin (los angeles 2.0) you might have issues...just because its legal (if it even is) doesnt make it a good idea.
