If you are going by Portland, why not visit Brown's Camp for a little wheeling in the Old Tillimook burn?

mapquest said, if im reading it right, I-90 to the north, the first time through, then on my way back it says I-84 to the south a little more. But I do have a buddy in Boise so I might stop and say hi to him as well.

yeah that right there was the original plan. wouldnt go without it. then i became kinda broke and with the jeep getting maybe 15 mpg. I have to go on this trip and get away. so now i will be taking my gf's car that gets like 30 mpg. another reason i dont want to take my jeep anymore is because i didnt have enough money to do some smaller work on it to get it ready for such a trip. either way im going, just not with my jeep anymore which is ok because i have a wheeling trip right before the trip and right after, so if something breaks i dont have to fix it before my trip now.

Yeah, that is definitely the way to go. When I went to santa barbara the last time, a 1000mile round trip, I took sisters mazda protege and it only cost me $60 in gas Can't beat 35mpg. In my jeep, the same trip costs me about $170.

yeah. i really wanted to take my jeep and get an awesome experience. but then again, doing all those things and heading out there will be one of its own. I really wanted to make my way into NorCal (SoCal sucks A**) and even down to Yosemite but you need reservations like 6 months in advance  Next summer I am thinking I am going to do a Southwest tour of Utah and Arizona and maybe a little New Mexico.

I really wish I could get some time off work. I have a couple buddies that live in mariposa county (right next to yosemite) that we could stay with and do some wheelin too. Nothing like driving on a trail that drops 2,000ft in a mile down to the merced river

Sounds like a sweet trip man, I'm jealous. If you take I-90 through MN, you'll go right through my hometown (away from college) of Albert Lea, beautiful town.... NOT haha.
