Seriously though...I don't care to impose on your ability to collect your arsenal...

...I'm just curious on why?

How much cake have you invested in your collection?

How often do you get out and play with these "Big-Boy Toys"?

Do you actually shoot all of those on a regular basis? Or do you like to have them just for the sake of having them?

Craig,

The reasons you've read from others are true and factual, just read newspapers from about anywhere and you see where someone was killed by an intruder, robber, car-jacker, ________ (fill in the blank) befrore any cops arrived, including the famed RCMP.

That is why I've practiced with most kinds of weapons from handguns, rifles, grenades, slings, atl-atls, bows, etc. and have working knowledge of many ancient weapons like trebuchets.

Then you throw in my hand-to-hand skills as well and I think I've done pretty well becoming possibly one very dangerous person. Well, I've tried to.

Then I went to defensive skills also, like better driving skills, to give me the chance to convert a situation to my terms. IOW, don't try to run me off a road, you won't. But you'll be eating tree trunks.

Am I bragging? I don't think so and my military weapons score support it. 12 consecutive "Expert" on rifle, grenade, machine gun (30 and 50 cal) and small arms. I'm a consitent archer (8" groups at 35 yards, no sights). I can throw and stick knives, hatchets and axes pretty well.

What do I call a weapon? Look at your desk and see what has a point, a sharp edge or is heavy but fits the hand. What's there to be thrown or swung?

My arsenal: a Shrade carbon steel pocket knife, 3 Daisy B-B guns (Yes, I can put an eye out at 45 feet with it ... think of the pain ...) and knowledge of where every item usable for defense can be found in my home.

But, I'm not a violent person and I would rather reach a peaceful settlement.

IMHO, the person too "civilized" to defend himself, his home, family and country doesn't deserve to be protected by the cops. Why shouild they risk their lives for someone that give a darn about their own?

Budd

Btw, the B-B guns are lubed with 0W oil (petroleum) ... think: every time the piston slams forward a tiny droplet of oil is compression ignited (diesel) behind the B-B, and a little puff of grey-blue smoke comes out of the barrel with a louder than normal "pop!" 45+ feet? no sweat.

I had a 30-30 Western Auto lever action (re-badged Marlin 30-30 with Micro-Groove rifling, actually)

Loved that gun but had to hock it to pay our house taxes one year. Hope to get another one.

The beauty of a 30-30 is you can practice with a 22 in place of it. Standard velocity .22 LRs have the same ballistics as standard velocity 30-30 cartridges.

Save bucks on you practice time, use a 22.

i know some may think it's wrong, but my dad did the same for me and it gave me a real respect for the weapon. and i let them shoot it whenever they want with me so they never have to be curious about it and they know it's not a toy.

When I was about 8, I almost shot my sister ... Dad then decided it was time to teach me about guns.

I taught both of my sons and I'm glad I have.
