'81 toyota converting to '86 302
Does any one know of a company that makes adaptor bellhousings for toyota transmissions. The tranny I have is off a '94 pickup. I found one at northwest offroad but I was wanting to look at all my options. Any help would be cool.
Thanks,
XJ

Let me get this straight, you're wanting to put a Ford 302 into an '81 Toyota? Good Choice!

Yeah it's going to be pretty sick. The yota already has a 4" lift on it, we chopped the frame and we are building a custom bed so no worries for tire clearance in back. We already have it ready for paint so that's coming up before we get the 302 in it, also gator lining the interior top to bottom.

Sounds good! I've never seen a Ford motor in a Yota. I have a close friend building an 87 Toyota with a dirt track 350 motor on Propane. Has right around 425hp. It's rowdy as hell. I've always wanted to see a Ford motor in a Yota though, cause I'm a Ford guy. It'd be sick if you could find a 351W.

Yeah this is a second yota truck for me, my previous was an '82 this one is an '81. My first yota is why I have a 302, I traded it to a so called buddy who had an '86 Bronco that supposedly only needed a started, and about $2500 later I decided to stop spending money on it. It ran good but when I got it the AOD tranny had a crack from the starter housing all the way around to another bolt hole on the opposite side. My "friend" also never changed the U joints and the type of rear drive shaft that it was was ruined because of it. I'll get some pics tomorrow maybe. It's not that pretty right now but it's getting there sort of.

I met a guy who would go find 4 cylinder turbo cummins diesels out of old tractors and throw them in wranglers. He said they were pretty torquey and would break axels pretty easy.

Really, even though you already have this engine, I would suggest something else. A 3.4, 3.8 or 4.3L is a much better choice for this and even if you have to buy an engine you will still come out ahead. Those are all chevy motors and lots of adapters are available. I have seen a 350 in a Toy pickup and he had nothing but trouble keeping ring and pinions in it. I have an 84 and I can tell you that shoe horning a V8 in is going to be some work. V6s fit much better and are much easier to cool with the space given for a radiator, not to mention keeping the 4 Cyl tranny in one piece.

It a 94 v6 tranny with a removeable bellhousing with much better specs than the original 4 cyl tranny. We also measured and it looks like it will fit with plenty of room becuase we already planned to relocate the radiator, and even if we weren't we were switching to an electric fan as well which gave us an additional 4.5"-5" so we should be good there. We have also checked out similar builds and they said it would be fine as long as you weren't stupid with driving, dopping the clutch and stuff, which is fine. Not to mention as well that they recomend to do a body lift to help with cooling, not completely sure how much this would help but we planned on it anyways to help with tire clearance.
