Stay away from crutch field. Those prices will kill you. Car Audio Stereo - Car Subwoofers - Car Amplifiers and Speakers I have always had excellent service here and the prices are unbeatable.

BTW, what are you looking for as far as bass goes? Are you wanting something to add some depth to your tunes or something that will cause your mirrors vibrate so badly they are worthless?

Hey I'm no expert on sound systems, but I am wondering if the 5 1/4" speakers are a little small for what you are doing. I know they will fit in the doors. but so will 6". I have 6X9" in my tailgate and they are great with good sound range and lots of volume if I need it.

Eh, don't try and fit 6" speakers in there. I did that and it rattles like you wouldn't believe. There is no good way to make them fit in there without hitting your door panel. I would just run 5 1/4" component speakers in the front and whatever your jeep has stock in the rear.

I used Pioneer 6" speakers in the door. The trick is to get the new screws into something solid. No rattles.

Eh idk man. It's not that the speaker rattles because its not secure, it rattles because it hits the door panel. I even made a new mount out of sheetmetal but it still does that.

the sound diference between a 5 1/4 and a 6" isnt noticable enough to justify the work needed to get them to fit properly. better off getting a beter quality 5 1/4 and sending the proper sounds to it than fight with the wrong size speaker

good sound quality is more about quality products and proper adjustments than it is how big can i fit under my seat. i can make a $200 system from walmart sound as good as a $2000 system from Crutchfield installed improperly.

I know the 5 and a qaurters will fit, the infinities I listed above are decent speakers with decent reviews, they seem priced 'relatively' cheap at Crutchfield. Thats $70 per pair with free shipping and some other free junk.
I'm fairly resourceful, but I'm concerned about 3 things:
1# Getting a sub/amp/box that hits hard enough to give my tunes some body. For under 300.
2# Making that sub small enough that it won't be seen by every nefarious bastard walking by it. I was even considering one of those 12" sub Bazooka tubes and just mounting it behind the drivers seat since my only passenger is my chick. My windows have the stock tint which does a decent job, but if the subs are big enough you're going to see them. The ones I listed above are a little bigger then I would like, but the price is right, heard good things, and the box is big enough to give them some room to breath.
3# Wiring it correctly. I've seen a lot of info on this, I have a pretty good idea of what I am doing, but any diagrams for a 98 XJ would help.
