Default Intake air temperature signal out of range

Does anyone no what to do about a code 23 on a 1996 Jeep Cherokee? I looked it up and the manual reads "Intake air temperature signal out of range." Could this be due to the cold temp. outside?

Probably about 17 F. The check engine light keeps coming on at night when it gets colder but during the day the light is off. Not sure what's happening but it seems to be weather related.
