Default Timing?

so i finally got the ramcharger all back together and we sprayed starter fluid in the carb. turned it over and it blows flames off the top of the carb.

my question is:
is this ignition timing OR crank to camshaft timing?

180 degree's out?

You could try removing your distributor and rotating the shaft 1/2 turn...

It could be both, I do not know how the timing on the Ramcharger is supposed to be for the timing gears but if you followed the book, then it should be right so I would say it is your distributor......if you did not follow the book, then you need to recheck it to make sure it was done correctly......even one tooth off and you could have problems.........did you loosen the bolt on your distributor and turn your distributor back and forth while someone is cranking it to see if it fires up?

Take out #1 spark plug and turn the motor over slowly. When you get a whoosh and the TDC mark on the crank pulley comes up, that is top dead center. Then set your distributor by that and you will be right.

That is absolutely right but if he did not get the timing gears in the right position, then it may not fire up anyways......at least if he is TDC and it's not firing, he will know it is the gears......I did that once on a 4.0......sucks having to take everything apart again
