So I picked up a 1,000 watt xantrex power inverter several months ago, back when costco had them on sale. It sat around collecting dust for quite some time until this weekend, I got some motivation and installed the thing.
![]() Just your basic install, Power wire from the battery with a 40 amp inline fuse, and a good ground. All wires tucked away nicely under carpet and behind panels. I was in hobby lobby with the gf and found tons of x-mas extension cords and misc. outlet stuff on sale 66% off (the one time I bought stuff in hobby lobby instead of the gf), including this 3 outlet deal that sparked an idea for my inverter. ![]() I chose the passenger side panel in the cargo area to mount it, Just cut a 1"x4 1/8th" hole and clear out the insulation from behind. ![]() I ran a standard 3 prong 16 gauge extension cord from the inverter, under the carpet and into the body panel, to the outlet. The outlet pressed in snug and doesn't move around at all, I didn't use any adhesive or anything to hold it, i'll see how it holds on its own. So far so good ![]() ![]() Powering my worklight ![]() Here is the inverter with the seat in and all the way forward, exposed for easy acess. When the seat is back you can't even see the unit. ![]() The inverter is a 1,000 watt continuous with a 2,000 watt max (capable of starting heavier loads). There are two outlets on the inverter itself, so i've got one open up front, and then the extension cord plugged in for the rear outlets. Project was very simple and would have probably taken only an hour if I wouldn't have had to run to the store 2 different times. Let me know what you think.

Moved to the articles section. Any chance of getting a better completed picture in daylight?

Nice write up, I love my inverter, comes in very handy especially when camping.
Do you know how many amps that will power? My 700 watt will do 6 amps, not sure what a 1,000 will do.

Thanks, I'm not sure how many amps it will power. The unit is 1,000 watts continuous, it will do 1,500 watts for up to 5 min, and 2,000 watts peak. I would assume around 10 amps or so. The biggest thing i've powered with it so far is my angle grinder.

My 4.5" grinder is 6.2 amps, so yours may be in the same ballpark. I may just look to upgrade to a 1,000 watt inverter anyway. It isn't much bigger than my 700 and if I can use a power tool or two it'll be even more worth it.

In all reality, I don't use it very often. It is however, a nice feature to have in the rig. I've used it more to power work lamps and charge my camera more than anything else. If I had something that pushed more amps I'd be able to use power tools when working my friend's driveway on his junk.
