This is the reason I mounted my amp in my headliner, and will do so with an inverter if I get one. If it gets wet in dirty water its gone. If it shorts and drys out it could burn your jeep. Its not too difficult and can save your amp/inverter and your jeep.

id be scared of that headliner catchin fire....it does however top the shag liner in the VW that my buddy just bought for a DD
as for the inverter ive got a 300watt mounted on the passenger side kick panel i couldnt see myself needing any bigger as i bought it mostly for charging my phone(i dont have a car charger and my sirius takes the 12v outlet) charging my camera and on occasion a drill or grinder which it ran fine when i tried but like someone else said try running something like a light from the other socket to stop any problems
i also got it for i think $100CDN at canadian tire on sale it was more of an impulse buy then anything but its been good when camping for when the camera goes dead or on road trips
pretty much its not a neccesity but more of a luxury

be careful mounting electrical items that generate heat upside down. when they are designed the heat disipation is not set up for inverted mounting in most cases. the heat rises right to the circuit boards instead of the heat sinks being able to pull the heat away from the boards

You know I was looking at this tread and I guess I'm a techie geek but I plan on running about a 1k with 3 batts to power a small dual core system and a 15" monitor up front. My big thing is the battery set up on my Xj. I plan on relocating all of them under the back seat and putting them inline for a larger cell. Anyone have any good ideas on this? Or advice?

There is not enough room under the back seat for 1 automotive battery muchless 3 unless you plan on hacking the floorboards. What type of batts are you planning on using?

Well the hacking is not beyond my demented mind? And I want to use red tops but will not be getting them all at once. The price on them hurts.

I plan on being able to sit and play the computer with the engine running or not. And may eventually use it for Computer trouble shooting. so I want the power to spare.

You will need to isolate one battery for starting and work off two. If you pull your starting battery down too far, it will have insufficient voltage to operate the ECM.
