Actually water proofing an XJ..??
Ok, just cause u add a snorkle doesnt mean ur rig can survive a deep water crossing, & so with that said id like to open a new thread that covers every angle of making the XJ safe & affective for deep water crossings, say around 4 ft or deeper!?!?
-Info,, now i have a totaly air tight homemade snorkle & my exaust points straight down at the floor to eliminate the force of water entering the exaust system. BUT, every time ive done any deep water crossings, just a short while afterwards, my starter motor fried itself from water damage, hence making this a not so effective water-proofed rig!!
-First order of buisness is locating a water-PROOF starter or doing it myself if possible. Next would be other parts such as an alternator, wire connections, fuel sys, air intake & an "envioronmentally sounder" exaust solotion!!
Hopefully this thread brings in very usefull information with this topic & saves headaches, time spent, & money on fried parts!!

Your axle Vents need to be extened to prevent water from getting in the axles.

if you have a 5spd tranny needs to be "plugged"
transfer case needs to be "plugged too
axles breather hoses need to be extended or if you let the axles cool before submerging you can get away with plugging the breather holes
starter was mentiond but the silinoid was not ...
water proof the engine (no oil leaksmeans water cant get in either

-Axle vents are as high as the hood line is... outter seals will be added to the 30 (if im still running the turdy), & the 8.8.
-Shes an auto so where would the plugs for the tranny & t-case go?? Will they both need vents if completely sealed off??
-This 4.0 has NEVER leaked nor BURNT up any oil in the past 7 yrs of ownership!!!! The motor has been babied with full synthetics & has a rather low 130,00 on her!!
-Mean Green has a high torque starter that id love 2 get my hands on, SO maybe i can call them up & ask to put a bit extra TLC into it?!!
-What about my OH SO IMPORTANT electric fan?? Should i search for one with this water-proof option OR is it something i can do to my existing e-fan??
Thanks!!

get out of this tread with that nonsense, thats why we drive jeeps ...
if you want to swim take your doors off and drive into the river, the ocean, the lake or jump into the pond... hydrolocking does not harm a 4.0 TRUST ME ON THAT ONE
see a mud hole and your on all terrains ... go for it ... youll be alright you will probably just float over that mud anyway... worst case someone can pull you out and if not ... call someone with a bigger truck and they will pull u out
see some rocks ... go for it worst case scenario you get stuck and your buddy will pull you out
