I'm installing a new component speaker system soon and it comes with a pair of tweeters. Where have you guys had the best results mounting tweeters in your XJs? My dad's Tahoe has got a pair up on the dash facing the windshield but I'm not sure...sometimes I forget they're even there...

I put mine in the bottom of the dash....they were hidden and I did not have to cut up a bunch of stuff or run wires everywhere.

How do they sound from down there? I'm pretty good with wiring so I'm not too worried about that...I'm going 100% for sound quality. I hate being at work trying to remember what the interior of my Jeep looks like.....but is there anything "wrong" with putting the tweeters near the top of the door panel, right about where your ear sits during normal vehicular travel. Unless I'm mistaken, there's a piece of plastic that runs along there that I could mount the tweeters in, but I'm not sure. It's hard to say without actually being in my car. The component system I ordered includes 3 options for the tweeters: 2 flush mounts that'd require a hole to be cut (which I don't really mind all that much) 2 adhesive backed normal mounts that look a bit unsightly, and 2 adhesive backed angled mounts.

Yes, there is a piece of plastic molding that runs where the seat belt is but I do not know if you would be able to fit a tweeter in there....not enough back spacing? Also, I do not know if you are going for looks to or do not care what your stuff looks like or not. Some people put the tweeters in the center console and make a different lid for it for the tweeters to sit in or they cut out a hole in other parts of the console to put them in. If you have an overhead console, sometimes they put the tweeters in there too. Just a few ideas. The sound quality of course will not be as good at the bottom of the dash. Placing them in the actual door panels depends on the metal that it is attached to.....I do not cut the metal bracing in the doors because you lose support when you do that.

the most ideal placement for the tweet is as close to the mid as possible while still having a clear unobstructed path for the sound from the tweet to your ears. for best sound you want the drivers side tweet aiming at the passengers left ear and the passenger side tweet aiming at the drivers right ear. up high on the door panel like LBXJ and skibum showed in those pics is fine and usually the easiest install.

either that or you can build/possibly buy kickpanels...ideally, homemade fiberglassed kickpanels with proper aiming will provide the best quality, but it would take a true audiophile to distinguish between kickpanels and mounting as I and others have done.

the problem is usually the window lock switch in the drivers door. jumping the wires in the kick bypasses the lock switch allowing all window switches to work no matter what the position of the switch
