I cannot tell you offhand but I can tell you to call a few junk yards in your area and they should be able to tell you what year models and the model of the jeeps will interchange. Some years are one year specific when it comes to some things and not all 4.0 engines are the same when doing a swap.

Also, the computers are a little different and the 99 is a distributor type while the 2000 is distributorless type and has a coil pack while the 99 has a different single coil setup that is remotely located next to the distributor.

Oops, for some reason I missed the Grand part of the equation. They will probably match up then but just double check with the junk yards to be sure as you would be very angry if you got everything ripped apart just to find that you need a different style of one. The engine mounts are sometime located in different positions and whatnot fyi.

You should be able to. double check that all sensors are in the same place/same part numbers, and you might want to make sure the transmission mounts the same since the grand has a slightly different setup.

everything fits so if something is different you can just swap it out from the old motor. the xj and zj use differant fan systems. but ive seen xj motors in zj jeeps. just for simplicity keep with the system the jeep has.

I own both 1998 Cherokee Classic & 2000 Grand Cherokee Laredo. It looks all will interchange as long as the bolt patterns for the motor mounts are the same, I am sure they are. The accessories mount in different places, i.e. alternator. The oil filter on the Cherokee has a 90 degree adapter to miss the uniframe whereas the Grand has not adapter and the oil filter is perpendicular to the engine. In fact the motor in my Grand is from a Wrangler where all of the accessories and adapters had to be swapped. Make sure to look for bosses for mounting these accessories.

the computer is said to have more aggressive fuel mapping. my 93 zj was alot slower than my current 91 xj, could a few reasons why but at anyrate the intakes were the same in appearance as well as the head and when i look in alldata later ill let you know if i see differant specs on anything.all 4.0 zj's are HO but not all xjs are HO, basically anything pre 91? (correct me if im wrong)
isnt a HO

I know all the differences in the outside appearance of the actual 4.0 engines to 93 and up but not the internals. I know of the heads too and such but not sure about the journals and bores vs stroke and such....heard a bunch of stuff a while back and just remembered a ghots of what they were talking about. All 4.0 engines after 95 or 96 were H.O. if I remember it right but prior to that it was hit and miss.
