Default 5.2L in '01 GC???

A friend of mine swears up and down that he has a 5.2L V8 in his 2001 Grand Cherokee. The Motor is toast and he want's to replace it with another Engine from a J/Y.

I've been online checking into this, but i am gathering that the 5.2L was not an option in '01 GC's... only the 4.7L V8?

Unfortunately, i can't argue this point because his rig is still out of town!

Anyway, he's getting ready to do the swap and "We're" going to help him out with this.

My question: What Engine years(casting numbers) are compatible
with his rig... i.e. heads, intake, exhaust, sensors, etc...

Default

The only engines available were a 4.0L (195HP), a 4.7L (235HP) and a 4.7L HO (265HP). (At least in the North American market...diesel option was available in other markets)

I suppose it is possible that he has a 5.2L if he or someone else did a swap in the past, but it's very unlikely, and wouldn't make much sense as a swap as it would be a lot of time and money to make it work properly...

As for the engines, I'm fairly certain that the 2001-2004 engines are pretty much all the same for the most part. The PCM and the intake manifold part numbers are different in each of the 01-04 models but the cam and crank seem to all be the same part number...

That's all I've got for info at the moment...

Hope it helps you out some.

Later.

EDIT: Part numbers mentioned above refer to the 4.7L. The 4.7L HO has a bunch of different parts that are not interchangeable.
