Default 97 Grand Cherokee heater fan stopped

I've seen several others have had problems with the heater fan, but did see the solution...so here is my details.

The Heater fan stopped working. I jumped the RED & Black wire power connection to fan and there is NO voltage. I jumped the fan directly to the battery & ground it works fine. I jumped the RED power connector to fan and black direct to ground and it works...ah-ha..it is the BLACK ground wire. I tested as many of wires I could find from the blower to the center speed switch and they seemed to work (though I may have missed some). So in my frustration , I grabbed the power connector and gave it a yank, and by magic it worked. My assessment is that the black wire, somewhere between the connector and the quagmire of the dash, is broken. About 6 inches up from the connector, it gets wrapped together into a harness I have no real idea where it goes.
Can I simply re-run the BLACK wire? And my real question, is where does it go after the connection so I can fish a replacement wire through?

IF it's only a ground problem, yes just re ground that black wire. Have you checked the resistor?

I have checked the resistor and it is fine. After pulling and wiggling the wire, then the fan started and all the speeds worked. Based on how I read the schematic, I would need to run a ground from the red/black connector (closest to the seat) to somewhere but I'm not sure. If I go straight to ground, I will bypass the variable control switch. I'm thinking it will go to the bigger connector plug attached to the resistor right next to the blower. It looks like there are 5 wires there but I didn't have time or the light to check out the colors... I was going to go to the library to see if they have a more detailed picture and schematic.

Any ideas where the jumper wire should go to?

I have never seen more than 2 wires at the blower motor. 1 ground 1 12v The resistor limits voltage going to the motor in order to limit speed. If you ground the - wire of the blower motor you should not have any trouble or loose any functions. You can ground it right to the dash frame. Any ground will work you dont have to go anywhere special.
