Default Cherokee parts to Grand Cherokee question

I have just bought a 94 Grand Cherokee that has a 4.0L in it... it chugs at low rev's but when you get it up to around 2000 rpm's its fine.. any Idea's what it might be?
I also wanted to ask is the 4.0L engine, auto trans and t case in the grand Cherokee the same as the cherokee. I ask because the t case in the grand has a cracked case.. (it has the full time feature) I have t-cases out of other cherokee's that I would put in if the t-case will bolt on.
If I can not find out whats wrong with the engine I mght just take the engine out of the 95 cherokee and put it in if the electrics are all the same set up..
any help would be great...

If the transfer cases are the same model, I do believe they are interchangeable regardless of vehicle.

as for the wiring, I am not sure, different Jeep models of different years came with different options and the wiring was set up for those options.... I am not saying the swap can't be done, but it might be more entailed then desired.

as for the lack of lowend, it could be a bad fuel pump. Not keeping enough preassure at lower RPMS to keep the engine running smoothly.

I looked at my Jeep Cherokee Manual for all the years, and trouble shooting for rough idle could be, Bad fuel injectors, dirty fuel injectors, missing in a cylinder (could be no fuel, no spark).

let me know if you find out what it is

The engine itself is just a normal 4.0 w/o the H.O. options that the XJ's motors came with. You have the 242 transfer case if it has the full time option and you can do a direct swap with another 242. no other transfer cases will be a direct swap, others can be done like the 231, you just have to mod other parts to get it to work properly.

If your rig has been sitting awhile, clean out your gas tank, put on a new fuel filter, put a couple bottles of injector cleaner through it and then go from there.
