If you have bad rings I would bet money almost you are going to have some wear. But thats what the rings are for, to basically go bad before the walls, if you re-build might as well have it bored out anyways. My last cherokee I rebuilt the straight six and had it bored 40 over.....huge huge horespower difference. Highly recomended

Why 40 over? Were the cylinders that bad? 20 over would have let you get another rebulid if ever needed.

Ya they had some major scratches a few that were to deep, but the rebuild was defiantly worth it.

Odd ... they must be using a softer alloy in 4.0 than they did in the 232-258 engines. It was harder than heck to scratch them ... let alone wear them out.

Lots of nickel in them old engines.
