All ZJ bodies are the same except for the trim: Base, Laredo, Limited, Overland. Those are the only ones I know (is there even a "base"?). I think the Laredos with the chrome grills are the ugliest ZJs ever (not meant to offend anyone here).

In '96, ZJ's got a bit of a face lift. The rubber trims on the exterior were prettied-up a bit, they started using 16" rims on select Trim-Levels, the interior seats were different in that the cushions were changed. The steering wheel was changed to a 3 spoke wheel as well.

There are probably some other changes that came along with this facelift, but I can't think of them right now.

The front bumper and grill are also different. Dash and door panels are different. Also in 96 they added the passenger air bag.

I like them all from 93-98 but i think 96-98 has a nicer front end and deff has a nicer interior. They all ride the same and are just as comfortable though.

As mentioned earlier the 96+ got a taller grill reportedly for more airflow to the radiator. The driving lights were also moved to the bottom of the airdam if so equipped.

Other than that it was mostly interior refinements.

They do. The body is exactly the same. Doors fenders hoods hatches all that is the same 93-98. The only difference is the front bumper, grill, and header panel from 96-98 and the plastic door moldings changed a little. All the parts from a 96 can be used as a direct bolt on for a 95 down to make it look newer.

yeah i found out right away on my 93 since it was missing half the grill and lights and i tried to us the 97 header panel with my 93 grill, lol.
theres a few differances inside. my 93 laredo didnt have the self dimming rear view mirror but the wires were there, theres 2 types of heater/climate controls, theres th overhead milage counter, the sunroof models, and on some v8 zjs the back hatch glass opens up like a blazer does(newer blazer).
personally i dont like the way they changed the grill in 96, i like it even across the bottom. i wish i had the grey leather seats from early years, they are so nice. mine are just as comfortable, maybe more but the way they sticked the leather is really cool. my fav is the silvery pearl color, v8, sunroof, rear hatch lift gate zj.the new jeeps dont do it for me. i often wonder are car makers really this dumb when i see all the new cars on the road these days. either im getting older or the makers are stupid 85 year old men who have no taste in cars unless you like a vw toureg lol.
even the new mustangs are ugly! the last good ones were in 04. the 350 and 370z are about the only new cars i think look ok, but new jeeps, barf barf, libery? hell dodge nitro, lol, okay the new wranglers are okay, but they look alot like older ones still
