How much life in a Grand Cherokee?
My new cherokee has 90,000 miles on the clock (2001 model) - I'm just wondering how many more miles I can add to that. Is 150,000 a reasonable expectation or will the engine die before that?
I need to get at least 3 years out of the beast if possible!
Also - being new to the forum i have tried to upload a photo under my profile but it doesn't seem to like it. I'm trying to get it to show below my name but it just ain't workin'. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Mark.

First... you have to host the photo somewhere and then post it...
Second... 90k isnt many miles at all IF the Jeep has been cared for.
All of my 4.0l have more than 150k on them.. and my 5.2 has 203k on it....

The engine will last you quite a while without worry.
The problems in the WJ's however tend to reside in the Quadra-Drive transfercase because the CV in the case tends to wear out. That should be the only thing that I'd be concerned about, but even that is a minor concern because you could always swap in a new tcase from another Jeep.

My grand has 165K on the 4.0. The 42re behind the 4.0 is the main concern. From what I have read they tend to last around 130K or so with daily driving duties. Mine went out at 160K after overheating it on a trail.
Ive got over 200K on my XJ 4.0 and it goes great.

Stumped by some of the terminology... (Haynes manual is in the post!)
"Quadra-Drive transfercase because the CV in the case tends to wear out" - sorry, what's the CV?
and what's the "42re"
Cheers.

CV was probably meant to be VC as in Viscous Coupler.
42re is the transmission behind the 4.0
