Needs a lil TLC or could be made into a great wheeler. You bought the best year ZJ IMO. The 93 is the ONLY year ZJ that came with the 231J t-case which i love. The 4.0 will last forever and thats an HO motor. If your valve cover isn't leaking you dont own a Jeep. As far as the XJ D30 it will bolt in but it's not quite the same. The lower control arm brackets on the ZJ 30 are used for alignment. The XJ uses the lower control arm brame brackets. Take a look at it and you will see what i mean.

do all 93s have that t case? i thought i looked and it was a np242 but ive looked at so many jeeps lately. whats so good about that one?
and what years have the same inner grill i need the entire inner headlight support. got one off of a limited and its differant.my grill wont mount to it and it doesnt have the 2 metal braces to the inner bumper it has a center peice.,let me know asap if you know we have lots of jeeps at my work but i dont think we have a 93.yep valve cover leaks...not too bad.motor puts out some light steam when first running then goes away , kinda worried about that.cant find the same color fender, bunch of xjs that color at work.
does a 96 xj use the same front brake pads as my 93 zj?

I have the 231 T-case too. It is a multi stage T-case that offers 2 wheel drive, part time 4wheel drive, where power is split 50/50 when needed, and a 4 wheel low that is part time and the power is again 50/50, but power it always applied to the front wheels. It also have a 2.72:1 low, which with my 3.73 gearing in my axles and my first gear with the 4spd auto, its a very nice stock crawling gear.
as far as I know, from 90-96, Jeep made them all the same... Some may differ due to models and trim packages, but if they are within those years, parts should be interchangeable
But I could be wrong..

yea i got the front all fixed, used a 94 i think. still needs a fender or 2 sorta and a hood if i want it to look perfect. it has the np242-j tc not the one mentioned.
anyways my exhaust smells really funny and is a tint blue-ish motor has 163k i wouldnt think the rings would be bad but the awful smell is like a mazda truck that smoked so bad it would fill a garage in a minute.i think thats the smell if not that its the smell of something like a bad headgasket. it doesnt over heat but sits a bit under 210.the cat seems to rattle while running too.
the damn steering doesnt turn all the way one direction and the wheel sits crooked, so its way off probably from being hit and adjusted by a idiot:P

Blue smoke is oil. The 242 case was an option as well. It's good case. The only case i dont like is the 249 due to the face that it's full time 4wd. Kills gas mileage and hurts performance. The smell in the exhaust is most likely a bad cat. It's a 93 so it's OBD1 and the cat can be removed with out having any check engine lights. That however may not be legal depending on were you live. I duno how your inspections work.

You said your exhaust has a blue tint right? Thats oil just keep your eye on it. As far as your exhaust goes if you can legally remove the cat id do it. Then put a flowmaster 50 series on it and replace whatever else needs to be replaced. 50 series sounds nice on the 4.0 Im also very happy with my gibson but it was a little loud when i didnt have a cat.

well up date ...i just got tabs and transfered it so i can drive it and get a better idea of its issues.
i want it to be quiet. already have a loud mustang and my 86 is real noisy without a cat.ill probably make a test pipe maybe insert a small glass pack to keep noise down a bit. yep the 50 series is nice i have 40 series on my stang with a offroad h pipe and its a bit too much so im thinkn of 50 series for it since they are a 3 chamber instead of 2.
i need to figure out why my wheels dont turn all the way to the left. it only turns half way. and the steering wheel isnt lined up right.
i know how to adjust that but the steering is another story. maybe the drag link? im going to check the toe in alignment and adjust it. is it possible the steering wheel is stopping me from making a full turn and just needs to be adjusted like when you do a lift?

No the steering wheel doesnt have a stop on it. The front end may possible be damaged from the accident. That or the steering box is off center. It will take some playing with to figure out. Back to your blue tinted exhaust. If your exhaust has a blue tint, your burning oil. Just leave it alone its not the end of the world. Just check your oil every few days to make sure its full.

i drove about 20 miles tonight, no smoke or funny smells, its weird. i love this thing already, great power, smooth auto, usually i hate autos but i dont mind this one. i still need to make sure my 4wd works it doesnt feel like it. the lever is sorta hard to move for the tc but it lights up the display.i adjusted the thing near the pitman arm its turned in all the way. i turns alot beter but its not right. the toe in is nutts on right.nothing is bent except the passenger side lca bracket on the axle. the pitman arm doesnt point center when the steering wheel is center so i believe there in lays the root of the problem.
when you say off center you mean where it mounts or something differant?
this is my first 4.0 i love it. and its so quiet compared to my noisy pos 2.5l that sounds like a deisel

Take it to a good alignment shop. By off center i mean the steering box is off center as in the pitman arm. You always start your alignment with your pitman arm pointing towards the back of the jeep. Someone messed with it who didnt know what they were doing. Any shop that does alignments should be able to get it right.

Dont leave that marvel in for to long. Stuff does a number on bearings. maybe 40-50 miles of driving and change the oil. use 10-30 not 10-40
