10-30 does wonders in a 4.0, man. its all i use. the smoke was probably oil, but its a jeep. as for the steering 95xj is right, someone botched an alignment job. get it done right at a shop and itll be all good to go.

Looking at the pic it sure looks like the pass side front wheel took a hit. I'm betting his steering issues are bent draglink and/or tierod. Which is why he has it adjusted all the way to get toe back straight.
Grab yourself new steering, preferably V8 ZJ if it's available. Center the pitman (straight towards front) then attach pass knuckle. Then adjust to get drivers side. Then a proper alignment.
Also, take a pic of the bent control arm mounts. It may be better to just swap in another D30 to ensure it's straight and safe.

everything is straight or has been replaced. i know what to look for and i bent stuff on my xj so i know its all perfect but the steering wheel and pitman are not right with each other.
as for the oil well its burning it past the rings i assume so i whent with 10w40 since its thicker.i have had funny vibarations since day one, seems to be getting a lil worse and it almost reminds me of a bad converter in my old intrepid, loose converter bolts maybe, wobbling in the front pump, geuss ill know when it makes the seal go out and leak can i get to the converter bolts by pulling the inspection plate?

this thing gets really bad gas milage but seems to run well. i mean it must be getting around 12-15mpg tops.it goes thru oil, u can smell it burning it but usually cant see any blue smoke.
any ideas how to make it stop consuming oil/stinking and improve milage.
my 5.0 modded mustang gets better gas milage so i know something aint right here.
i need help guys

Have checked the gas mileage? As far oil consumpition could be a number of things leaking valve cover gaskets rear main seal oil pressure switch. May need tune up what not.

oh no theres no doubt it actually burns oil...so either past the rings or valves. its not a leak that consumes the oil. i havent accurately calculated gas milaged but i can tell its very bad, as im used to driving v8 cars and this thing is bad, really bad i whent 30 miles on like 3 1/2gallons of gas = geusstamate of 8.57mpg

Yeah that is most definitely bad.
I would suggest an engine over haul if you want this to be a 100% reliable rig. That, or upgrade it to a used 4.0 from a wrecking yard.

i need to get the codes pulled on it. i bet the o2 sensor is bad.it runs pretty smooth and quiet thats the thing.and most of the time you cant tell its burning oil.

when i first had my xj it sagged my wheels were even with my fender trim. i whent to the wheeln spot and people were like what are you gunna do with that thing?!
then at night another time a girl at a bon fire yelled out " i love mini vans" from a crowd of toyota trucks. i preceded to pull out my spot light and drive by and spot light her and every one. they werent happy about 2 million candle power.
but stock height jeeps are depressing. its like driving some pos car and seeing a nice mustang, knowing i have a nice 5.0 at home but im in my pos s10 truck
