Default Lifter noise

After an overheating engine and a head job/valve replacement I have lifter noise. Is there anyway to fix this without going internal. Can I use some kind of additive?

There are a few variables here first. Did they magna flux the head and check for cracks and then measure the head for any warpage? If not, this could be your problem. If they did, then did you replace the lifters and add some prelube to them before install? If you did all of these things and you correctly installed your head with the right torque specs and int he right order, then you may want to try to add some seafoam to your oil because you may have varnish in your engine where the lifters are and this may cause them to stick a little.

Also, when the install was done, did they put moly-lube on the lifters and any contact points, if not, this could have damaged the cam too or lifters. You may have a cam issue even before installing the head if it was making the same noise before install.

The head was tested and milled. The machanic didn't do anything to the lifters. If I put resilone in, will it help?

Default lifters

What you could do that I know is safe for your engine is to put seafoam in it, you can pick it up at almost any autoparts store for around $7 or so. If the tick does not go away, then it could be your lifters that are the problem and possibly the cam. When replacing the head, most people think replacing just the lifters is a good idea but is in reality a bandaid fix and when you replace lifter, you are supposed to replace the cam too. That is what the mechanics manuals tell you. Pu tth eseafoam in and see if it helps, then see where you are at after a couple thousand miles.

Seafoam is a type of petroleum based cleaner that is safe to use in you gasoline and oil. It is used to clean varnish, crud off the internals of your engine and free sticky lifters when used in you oil and when used in your gas tank, it cleans injectors and valves. It is on eof th ebest products out there, just ask the other guys on here. It also removes water from gas or oil. If you have a sticky lifter and that is it, it will free the lifter but if it is something else that has damage to it, the problem will still be there.
