Looking at My First Jeep
It is a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2l V8 with all time 4wd. I am looking for any information on these trucks that you can provide. I see people talk about wj zj and such which would this truck be? What are the opinions of the all time 4wd drive system? The truck has about 220000 miles on it and I could pick it up for about 1200. It runs ok other than needing exhaust and a stereo it is also a hard to turn requies two hands from a stop is this a common problem? I checked the power steering fluid and it was full.

it is a zj and the all time 4wd depends on the person driving some people like alot don't. thats not the best price but not the worst for the money and the turning is usual in some jeeps did you hit the gas when at a stop because sometimes it takes the belt to move fluid through to get the steering to be smooth. but that is my 2 cents im sure others will say something completely different tho so keep up with th post

When you hit the gas it was easier to turn. It still worries me a little bit that it takes two hands to force it to turn unless your on the gas or moving. I liked how it drove and it rode and looked good. I only test drove it because of the price I thought the price was low I had never looked a jeep until today. I am just looking for a good winter beater for when I put the convertible up. Any more info on the all time four wheel drive espeically maintence information and any opinions about how it does snow/ice conditions.

Yours is a ZJ
The truck has about 220000 miles on it and I could pick it up for about 1200.
Your engine is about due for a rebuild. That is high mileage for one of the V8's
I wouldn't buy if it was me. Its gonna need some engine work very soon!

Your PS Pump is more than likely about to die! My GC would turn with 1 finger when not in motionand it was on 31" tires
That transfer case is great in snow/icey conditions otherwise it just wastes gas mileage and gives you more things that you have to due maintence on IMO.

I am just curious how do you test the PS pump. I have heard the V/C in the transfer case can cause this problem as well. Why would the engine need work at 220000 miles? I thought the 318 ran forever. It also seem very strong no weird nosies or anything of that nature.

I have a family member with one and a good friend with one, they maintain them on time all the time and it seems to me that they are always in the shop. Those motors are so hit and miss to where I have always avoided them like the plague.

Yeah I think you got the wrong idea of your first jeep,
you can find a better deal on jeep (XJ or ZJ).though thats not to bad except the mileage, but it sounds problamatic.

In my Opinion, if you want it for just a beater and wont be putting anything into it. go for it, but take heed to all of what is being said above.
I have a buddy with the 318 in his Dodge, and he has 118,*** on it and has had no problems, where as my cousin with his ZJ had had nothing but problems with the 318.

I passed on the jeep has some recommened. I need something a bit more reliable. I did like how the jeep felt. The same dealer has a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee for 4000. It is a Laredo with the 4.0 and selectac 4wd. What are the opinions of this style Grand Cherokee. I have heard the Jeep 4.0 is almost indestructable is this true? It does have higher miles at 170000.

the 4.0L is a great engine, however, for a long time Chrysler has not put a good product with the engine. Some other parts may fail and if maintenance was skipped, some parts maybe worn out and needing replacement.

That is a WJ and I would buy it if they would take a little less (although still not a bad deal at that price IMO). That motor will go forever and they are super reliable. I have been looking at getting one for my wife to drive.
