Default Looking for a ZJ Lift

Anybody here running a lifted ZJ?

My son's birthday is coming and he wants a lift for it (that's muh boy). He is turning 19 which is the age of majority in these parts so it's a big deal and we figured we would splurge.

So, I have been looking at a few lifts in the $600-$700 range. Any feedback on which lifts are good and not so good for a ZJ?

Been looking at this one in particular ... http://zoneoffroad.com/product?ki=65&vi=527

Skyjacker makes a 3 inch system that looks like crap to me for around the same price.

The RE 3.5" super-ride kit looks great but a little too pricey

Rough Country makes a 4 inch lift that comes with shocks and all that for around $650, but I have heard very little good about their products ... mostly gripes.

Any feedback would be most appreciated. If I buy one online from the States I would get it shipped to Sumas Washington and just pop across the line to grab it.

Thanks

I'm running a RE 3.5" with 2.25" BB on top of it in my '94 ZJ. I got mine at a price I cann't say got a deal on it...

What size tire you planing it to clear? That has more base on what lift to get. You won't clear anything larger than 32's with 4" of lift with out major trimming. I found I was much happy at 3" of lift on 31's than I am at 5.5" on 32's.. Everything lost it's "challenge factor" once I got 5.5" of lift..

He is going to be running 32x11.5 Kumhoe KL71s (he has a set already waiting to go on). Trimming isn't an issue as we have the tools and a welder and the gall to do it I figured there would be some trimming involved. My main concern is the durability of the lift. I would hate to see a saggy rig a year from now.

If your worried about saggy springs than spend the extra and get RE most others sag out or are way to stiff..

So if we went with the 3.5 RE how bad would the rubbing be before trimming and how much do you think we would need to trim to squeeze the 32s in there? Assuming of course he updates his rims to a 3.75-3.25 Back spacing?

It looks as though they will contact the front edge of the inner tub right at the bottom of the fender, so I can see bucking that off level with the bumper (or where a bumper would be).

Thanks for the feedback.

well Trucks on spike tv went with 5" I belive, and 35"? and they trimmed a lil, if your going with 3.5" and 32" its about the same diff, so you might need to trim just a lil up front at the bottom and on back at the bottom.. of each wheel well

you can get 32's with 3.5"RE. the "rib" in the back of the front fenders can be trimmed flat. Your best bet is to bump stop it and trim abit and you should be fine...

Thanks for the links guys. I am leaning towards the Trailblazer/OME kit from Rocky-Road. Either the 3.5 or the 4.5 ... hafta do more research on what else is needed for the 4.5" kit.

I have also been looking hard at the Zone Kit ... seems sturdy, but a little sparse on the features. The few reviews I have read have been positive.

All I know for sure is that the boy is gonna be one happy camper with a newly lifted ZJ He better not whine when I ask him to mow the lawn
