Default need mechanical advice

Hello everyone, I need some help I am an active duty soldier needing help, My 2004 jeep grand cherokee just started to over heat, not sure what could be the causes for this. The water in the Radiator was cool; both hoses were hot and the radiator was full of Fluid. Need a miracle here everyone please help me figure this out. I'm sure its an easy fix other than that its fine, check engine light came on then a minute later it stalled on me I was on the freeway. took 30 minutes before I could restart it to pull into a safe area. give me a call if you can help me out on some sound advice . thanks Lawrence stauffer. Currently stationed in New Jersey

For the overheating problem I'd have a look at the thermostat. It may have failed. If it seems alright I'd consider have a coolant flush to ensure there is no blockages. If the problem still exists, I'd look at the water pump.

As for the stalling, a scanner to pull the code would be a good start. Sounds like it could be a faulty O2 sensor though.

Later.

P.S. I don't recommend leaving your phone number on internet forums...If you want to share your number, I'd do it through P.M.'s

it highly possible the radiator is plugged up. even if the thermostat stuck shut the radiator would be hot if the hoses were hot unless theres an obstruction in the radiator. i would get a prestone flush kit that hooks to a garden hose and flush everything and replace the t stat just to rule it out and they are cheap and easy like $5 you can undo the bottom radiator hose and put a garden hose in the top to try to flush out the radiator its self. prestone makes some flush in a small yellow bottle that ive had good luck with. is it running okay after over heating? i only ask because this is how you blow a headgasket. i hate even saying but you couldnt get it to start for 30 mins right?

Sounds to me as if you have a plugged coolant system somewhere or a bad water pump. A bad thermostat will usually just make one hose hot and the other cold not both of the cold. You stalling could be a result of your engine getting too hot and shutting down which is a really bad thing btw.

Pull your thermostat out and drive without it and carefully watch the temp. This will prove that it is the t-stat , the most likely culprit. If you can drive some distance with out the motor going over 190 200 then your radiator system is fine. Then go replace your T-Stat And hope that serious damage did not occur when you overheated and killed the motor last time.
Good luck and thank you for your Service. I remember the days of being stationed in NJ./ Good wheeling spots and also a few good clubs to look into .
