Default shifter knob

I want to get a shifter knob from a Grand Cherokee I saw at the junk yard but couldn't get it off.

Is there a trick or does anyone have any tips?

Thanks.

i was reading somewhere that you need to put the trans in neutral, push the button on the shifter and pull straight up! It should pop right off...

i think the link for this was on GoJeep.com

let us know how it goes as i'm interested in doing the same.

Thanks. I tried it and knob wouldn't budge. Maybe it was just stuck. I'll try tapping it with something and see if it breaks loose.

Someone on here swapped the shifter knob into there xj and it looks good. I like the bigger handle.

Swapping in ZJ Tee and late XJ transfer handles

Would seem that you just need some more hutz-pah when trying to yank it off

HAHA I hit myself in the head when I took mine off. It takes a serious yank to get it off. DO NOT TWIST IT, YOU WILL BREAK IT!!!!

Yeah, the one I was trying to take off still wouldn't come off with a hammer tapping it so I moved on to the next one and it pulled right up. Swapped it just a few minutes ago.

I also installed my auto dimming rear view mirror but forgot pics.

I grabbed an extra zj shifter knob to if anyone is interested in it, looks the same as the one in the pics.

I was going to put my hurst shifter on but my buddy started giving me hell," this ain't no hotrod man!", until I took it out of the XJ. He is pretty persistent and repeatative when he is drinking.

Thanks for the great idea, it made a difference!!!

... oh yeah, it was easy to get out. The GC shifter handle's base is taller, i had to finish "tapping" it in to get past the bend of the shifter.
