Default So Where Do I begin?

Hello hello friends.

So first I must apologize I don't know all the lingo yet and what not but I just bought my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and have some plans for it in the future though I don't know where to start!

I guess I'll just ramble and you can respond to whatever you choose. And I'll tell you how I intend to use my car. It's my daily driver, but in the summer I want to take it through trails and camping and such. No crazy uneven ground just dirt trails and hills and such. As well some trails up north (northern Ontario). So in that case I might need to change my suspension, shocks, struts, sway bar? But then again what do I know, I am just learning.

----

1) I just got new Dunlop tires 235/75/15 last week so I don't need new tires or have aspirations for anything else, but I would like a slight lift. I noticed someone had a 3 inch lift on their's with the same tire specs so I don't know what exactly I'd have to do to get that done.

2) I was thinking of getting a front brush guard but they are so damn hard to find. Including some nifty extra lights. I like this one Jeep Accessories Grand Cherokee Grill Guard 1993 - Jeep Grill Guards - BLACK HORSE® - Black Grille Guard but I am not sure what I should be looking for.

3) Interior - My interior is awful, it's like a tan, but it's not a tan, it's darker. So a yellow-gold thing. Anyway, I was just going to get some new seats, probably junk yard those, maybe fine some simple leather ones. Maybe other models willl fit it, not just 93-97. Maybe another car even?

4) I move a lot, and do a lot of moving random things so I was thinking of putting down a bed liner like thing on the back of the back seats, and the trunk.

5) I need to replace the rear windshield wiper motor, the driver's side door doesn't lock electronically.

6) I need new front speakers, the guy who owned it before me must have never put the volume on.. Ever. And I plan to put in a CD/Media deck.

----

So yes, those are my plans but a lot of you are smarter than myself so please go ahead and tell me otherwise, or enlighten me with other info.

So yeah.

Thanks guys!

i personally think all your plans are interesting, i never even thought of bed liner on the back of the seats, honestly, maybe i just think this way because i can do it, it would probably just be easier to get fabric and recover the existing seats and redo the carpet and roof yourself i know i am redoing my carpet and roof this summer cause everything is just so dirty, the guy before me must have never cleaned it. front speakers you'll need 6 1/2s and i personally suggest infinity (once again personal preference) but if you change the front you should probably change the back too
*besy buy sale- buy one set get the other set half off infinity speakers until may
-check the fuse before you replace the motor, mine doesn't work either and it turned out to be the fuse
-personal preference on lifts, 3-4in with 32 or 33's and you can get a lift kit from several websites...one to try is
Jeep Lift Kits | Jeep Suspension Systems

so those are my ideas, i also just got mine recently and is my first one and i've been just making a lot of plans for things to do to it

First and foremost, i'd like to say, totally stock "Grands" wheel wheel remarkably well!
IMO- Driving technique and common sense is much more important than the hardware that you have on the trail. Most here would agree that a 3' lift and 31's is a good set-up for a mostly "stock" daily driver.

I personally like my rubber "bedmat" in my cargo area, it's just enough to keep things from rolling around. I have a Tule rack and ratcheting straps, as well as a small trailer for larger loads.

With that, i can't add much more to Nichole's post...

On the color thing. If you are all leather and vinyl, you can get some dye at an auto upholstery shop to change the color. Might save a few bucks that way.

haha i actually don't mind the tan color at all, i mean nothing else is really fitting except an actual tan instead of the golden color because of everything on the interior, you would have to re-do the entire thing. what i'm not a fan of is the "wood" panel they put over the central heat and air controls and radio and all that jazz, you know what i'm talking about? i want to find a different one that's just a solid color or just paint mine but i worry the paint wouldnt hold

You can get one in the junk yard. they are easy to take out. 4 phillips screws and it just pops off. I have the Lerado bezel, which is a silver color, instead of a colored one. I think the silver color goes better with the Sony. But on the wood dash, I have some genuine burl wood and thought of making a real one, quite unique.

well i want it to match everything else, silver wouldnt be fitting. i dont even know what brand my stereo is but it's black with blue lights, sweet ass stereo actually, and everything else inside the "wood" is black so i may as well get a black on..the only ones at the junkyard i go to are the wood ones

All the XJ bezels are the same until 96. After that they changed the interior and all those are the same too

It works about the same. You do realize that we owe Moose an apology for doing a really good job of highjacking his thread
