Default WJ Bumper!

And it's only 65 Lbs.! New product from Iceland Offroad...

Upside...They look sweet, they're not nearly as "bulky" looking as some of the other options for the WJ that are out there (Not that there are very many) and they're fairly lightweight and supposedly pretty strong, cheaper then some of the other bumpers I've seen out there...

Downside...Not sure how I feel about fiberglass, can be more work to fix then steel IF you should break it (although, it's 1/4 inch thick, so probably not a huge concern for most WJ owners)

Mmmmm....I wanna new bumper!!!

Later.

Been looking at one for my ZJ. I like the look and not having all the weight. I heard that there is a video of a guy hitting a bumper and flairs with a 8 lb. sledge hammer. Fiberglass a 1/4 of an inch thick is tough stuff. I had a fiberglass canoe that wasn't 1/4 inch and it took a beating. Never had a leak or a crack.

I hate the idea of fiberglass. But I really dont like the dring mounts bolted on fiberglass, Ive never even seen dring mounts bolted on a steel bumper.

I like it, it looks pretty darn good. Also, fiberglass is pretty tough stuff, it is known to take some pretty hard shocks. I say go for it.

Is the winch mount made of steel or fiberglass? I dunno about you guys but i do NOT trust anything but steel holding my winch on. I've seen my TJ's bumper and frame twist and groan during some intense winching. No way that fiberglass is gonna handle it, at least handle what I give it.

I give it a 10+ for looks. Damn SICK!

from the looks of it, there is a metal frame of sorts behind the glass to mount the recovery loop mounts to so i would guess that would also be true for the winch. have to get ahold of someone with first hand experiance with it to find out for sure though

bumpers

edit: i did a little looking around on their site. I came to the xj bumper page and noticed they have a Detour's like winch mount. What I see is only 3 bolts per side, using the factory bumper mounting bolts or so it seems. It states their fiberglass bumper bolts on to the jeep using steel brackets and 6 bolts, i believe 3 per side. This is not what I consider a strong setup. If you look at detour's and other bumpers, they bolt on to the framrail as far back as the steering box bolts. Most use the steering box bolts for a very sturdy and strong mount.

Don't know about the XJ but on the ZJ the winch plate bolts up like the recovery hooks do also like a ARB bolts up to the semi-framerails.The fiberglass is a cover just like ZJ has now. The fiberglass doesn't have to support anything but itself. You can use their winch plate (backbone) and cut your old bumper cover to cover the brackets.
