Your Opinion Please?!?
I'm just about to buy some bushwacker flares for my ZJ and going to be picking up some tires as well... I will be going with some BFG AT/TA KO's.. My question to you is what size can I get away with? I have a 2" Daystar budget lift amd want to go with the largest tire I can. I know for sure I will be going with at least 31's, would like to go bigger. I have two sets of wheels to mount them on and wondering what y'all think... 1st are stock 15 x 8 stars with their 3-4" of backspacing and the 2nd are 15x10 with about 5-6" of backspacing.. I think I can get away with 32's with a 1 1/2" backspacer on the 2nd set of rims but not sure if I'll get alot of body roll rub... maybe some 33's? Whaddya think? I will eventually will be putting new gears in the diffs later down the road , as well as a real lift....

31s are about your limit with a 2 inch BB unless you are willing to trim.

He said he's getting bushwackers so I assume that requires trimming and clears up room for bigger tires? I'm no expert with ZJ's though.....

Oops! I didn't read all the words My stock wheels have 5 inches of back spacing and rub at full lock on the lower control arms. This is with 3inches of lift and 31x10.50s. If you go with 3 3/4 backspacing (or stock wheels with 1 1/4 spacers) you should be able to run 32x11.50s with out much problem and clear everything. The trimming and flairs will allow for suspension travel in the front but I think it will be really close on the rear especially at the rear door. This is a great idea to keep it as low as possible while running as large a tire as possible.

My son has 33's on his ZJ with 3.5 " of lift and the Bushwhacker fender flairs. There is a lot of fender hacking with the bushwhacker in stall. That is a good thing. I really like them too.! Mainly toward the back of the wheel wells, this really helps if you are sticking with stock control arms as I am sure you are. I know 31" will fit great I think 32 will be close. I would stick with 31's if you only have 2 " of lift. to run 33's without fender flairs, I am at 5.5" on my ZJ
Here is my sons. Who is also my #1 wheeling buddy. Who is also at Boot Camp Today

My XJ has the 4.0 with the auto tranny. It didn't have to regear the axles until 33s were installed. That may help you decide.

thanks for all the help fellas.. just an fyi update... just got 31" X 10.5 R15 BFG TAKO's and fit them on a 15R X 10 rims with about six inches of back spacing and have no knuck or control rubbing... unfortunately still have to do a Sadass style bumper cut to be sure of the inner non rub.. also gonna need to trim up abit on the front well rear side as well.. haven't got the bushies just yet.. so I would say that a 30" tire is about a big a tire you can get on a 2" BB style lift without having to cut anything.. still gonna be bada$$ when I get it all on here in the next couple of weeks.. will take some pics before during and after the bushie install... Thanks again fellas for the opinions...

How did you measure for back spaceing? My 15x10 are at 4in back space. I went 33's on 4in of lift trimmed the front fender to the first line with jig saw. Cleanes up real nice with a little rubber trim from the auto store. Same with the rear (trimmed not much though). There is stop bolts on the inner rim side...just adjust acordingly so it wont hit the lca's. Maybe beat the inner pinch seam over with a sledge and wheel away.Oh yea I just tossed the front plastic bumper and went metal tubeing up front. Check you local laws for mud flaps and all. Every state is different I'm sure you know. Good luck

in retrospect I wish I had gone with some 32"s or 33"s.. still a sweet lookin setup.. just realize that I could've went bigger ... well I suppose I'll start with the bumper lines and cuts then move into the bushie install... I took my time and did most of the cutting first, and then had wheels mounted while I waited for the bushies to arrive Then got busy with the angle grinder and finshed the job... all in all I like the way it turned out
