Default NP 231 stock shift tab positions

I confounded myself and need some clarification.
I just installed an SYE. I think the T-case is in 2hi since the input and output are locked together, but the front output spins independently.

However, the shift tab on the t-case is pointing down and forward, towards the front diff. I can manually move it counter clockwise.

Shouldnít it be pointing up in 2hi?
Did I mess up the shift fork position somehow when I had it apart?

Should this be the correct 2hi position? I removed the sector tab and reinstalled it rotated 90 degrees clockwise.
Itís keyed so it only goes on a couple of ways.

Really? Thanks - thereís conflicting info on the old inter webs.

Next, Iím installing the Boostwerks shift linkage instead of stock. The instructions say ďthe tab should be oriented so it means back towards the TC, and up towards the floorď

Not exactly clear.
Like this? Iíll have to contact boostwerks I think

As yoiu have found out, when you go from stock to aftermarket, the position changes. Eliminating that Z link makes the difference

allot of people mention Adams. so i am sure they are very good at what they do. i just hate to think i may have to spend another chunk of change. i was hoping i could just use a front drive shaft.

Iím sure you will be able to find one to work, just a matter of the right length.
In my research I saved a chart of stock jeep DS lengths - if I can find it Iíll post it here for you.
IF you have Be luxury of time you can install the SYE, take appropriate measurements, then find one to fit

thanks buddy, i am very interested. when i google them i see front drive shafts at list as fitting a 90 to 99 cherokee. so if i was to go by that information then that means they are all the same length. i hope that is bad information though.
i did install me sye last sunday. the guy sold me the wrong sye kit. the yoke want fit my drive shaft even if it was long enough. i called them and reminded them of what i was doing and then they told me that they make a mistake. so i had to pay for another yoke and i am waiting for it to come in the mail. they said they will refund me the wrong yoke once they receive it in the mail. i still have to pay for shipping for there mistake, but at least all i have to do is swap the yoke and not the entire kit.
