Default 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee intermittent starting issue

2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee has the 4.7 V8 with 202,000 miles has a new starter new starter relay new ECM when it won't start will not turn over. The dash lights come on will not crank have narrowed down to putting foot on brake either while key is turned or turning key it will crank and start one way or the other. My first thoughts was the Shift Interlock Solenoid since it ties in with the brake light switch and neutral safety switch but I'm always able to get it out of park. Then next thing was neutral safety switch but the reverse lights work as well. I've googled this problem come a crossed few other people describing the same problem but haven't seen any fix for the problem. Also have read where this worked for a few months then it quits. I'm just afraid eventually pushing the brake trick is not going to work and leave me stranded. Any information greatly appreciated !

Hello and Welcome. Have you tried putting it in neutral? Also, when you rotate the ignition switch to start, do the dash lights dim or change?

Here is a diagram. If neutral gave the same results, I don't think it's the NSS. The ECM senses neutral and closes the relay that sends power to the starter solenoid. Check these circuits for continuity and power. You can start at the starter solenoid. The power to the starter solenoid is 40 AMP and if you don't know what you are doing, sparks will fly, literally. if need be, you can always PM me your phone # and experience for yourself and 1 on 1 with the Gluck!!!

WOW!
Looking at the diagram and I am stunned at the complexities involved just to achieve desired results of turning the key

My 2010 Jeep Cherokee seems to hang up as if I'm still holding the key to start after I let go.
Fortunately for me when I do return it to the shut off position it does not still try to crank, I've seen others that still continue to crank but the other thing it seems to do is sort of half run, as if it is running on a single cylinder so what I have been doing is just try turning on and off on and off and eventually it will run.

I do not get any error codes and so far has been the only issue with this jeep.
Well that and the heater core but that is fixed

Glad your issue is solved BTW!
This is such a valuable forum.
Even for those that do not necessarily own Jeep because many of the issues they're / we're experiencing cross multiple platforms so a huge thank you to the creator !
