Yep Exxon Mobil made 14.83 billion this quarter. That with a decline in consumer driving.

This figure up from 11.xx billion last quarter and 9.x billion the quarter before.

Is 34 billion to much PROFIT for 3/4s of a year?? And why again are the oil companies getting tax breaks??

That sounds like a nice profit by Exxon, maybe I should buy some Exxon stock. It's honestly not the Oil companies fault, they are doing a job just like anyone of us..it's just they get paid a lot more.I believe our Government gives them to much freedom. The average state gas tax is 28.6 which is a sales tax imposed on the sale of fuel. Then a 18.4 cents per US gallon federal tax is added on bringing the total to 47 cents per US gallon, and remember these are the average and if you live high tax county like I do you pay way more than those numbers.

Simple, they are a for profit organization. There is nothing wrong with that. What IS wrong are the liberals and the environmentalists that keep us from drilling in our OWN back yard, and keeping us from building nuclear power plants!!!!

Politicians need to get serious about alternate forms of energy.

I don't like any company getting rich off of me, but it is my fault too. I should have been kicking my representative's ass for a long time. As long as gas was cheap enough it didn't really bother me, even though I knew a day like this would come.

America uses a average of 146 billion gallons of gasoline per year, the Energy Department’s reported that America’s oil shale resource exceeds 2 trillion barrels, including about 1.5 trillion barrels of oil equivalent in high quality shale concentrated in the Green River Formation in Colorado, Utah and Wyoming.

The oil companys only make around 10 cents a gallon in profit they just sell billions of gallons of oil around the world. Windfall tax them, like Obama wants to do and they will just pass it on to us at the pumps so Obama is just hurting us. These oil company's have spent billions of dollars in research, trucks and oil rigs and employ thousands of Americans with quality jobs, the problem with them is there rich and people in America want to start class warfare. Hating the rich is easy, the problem is were americans and we all have the same freedoms to become and make as much as we want. Lets do an experiment Bouncy lets use Kyle and Amy as an example because we all know there in college. When they graduate and become successful in there chosen fields and become rich are you gonna hate them too? Just because they struggle through years of higher education and eat hotdogs and bolognia for months at a time. Then graduate and work and struggle even harder to become very wealthy, does that mean there bad now because they sacrificed and worked hard. Then it's time to attack them on taxes and make them pay for 90% of the US tax bill and welfare checks for bottom 40% that doesn't pay taxes at all? I am in the poverty bracket and live in a trailer and I'm not bitter, I chose my path and now I strap on a tool belt and hang off a ladder all day. I work harder than most in this land and I make just enough to get to the next payday. But I had the chance to have more and I chose to stay druck and be a party guy through my 20'S. I don't expect Kyle and Amy to pay me anything because I chose to have fun and not work hard in my youth. Why should the rich now pay you Bouncy? Are you intitled? Do you deserve it more than them? It's there money, they made it, now go make your own...

Some day if you ever meet me Jon, you may be eating some of those words.

Does the government or rich owe me anything. Sure, how about a 5 billion dollar tax break like we gave the oil industry. How about a $300 toilet seat or a $150 hammer. How about free health care like our senators and congressmen get. And how about 8 houses so I can forget where a few of them are located.

Would I think Kyle and Amy should pay their FAIR share of taxes SURE. I do, why shouldn't they do so too. Jon, tell ya what, how about you pay the same percentage as me and lets see how you do in life. I'm taking a guess here but as you have mentioned in the past your in the lower income bracket thus pay the lowest tax if any at all.

Businesses make profit. And our system is setup to have competition. McDonalds, hardies, burger king are in competition. Each has their 99 cent menu. BIG OIL has meetings about what they can get away with in price FIXING. Which I thought...Monopolies are illegal as is price fixing. Now you could call this an oligopoly in a sense which does make it legal. But when you have so few supplies for gas and everyone for the most part needs that gas to get to work, school, home...you end up with price fixing. Price gouging more or less. And THAT my friends is what I don't agree with. Of course our government is just as guilty but our own constitution allows for it in the form of taxes.

I DO have issues with big business making a killing at the cost of my pocket. And I do have issues with government letting them get away with it...Or even HELPING it with a 5 billion dollar tax cut. You say the companies will just pass it on to the customer...then let them be regulated like the electric and water companies.

As for the other comments about Oil Shale and drill Baby Drill. Please do not quote me on these numbers as I don't feel like looking it up. Oil shale has a cost of about $15 per barrel to get the oil out of the shale compared to oil wells producing a barrel at about 50 CENTS. To go after the oil in shale it would hit big oil in the pants hard and they might lose about 12 billion in profits...but as pointed out, they would just pass the buck on to us. So oil shale...welcome to $10+ per gallon.

As for drilling....LET THEM. And for every barrel pumped for profit, let a barrel be given back to the people for their lost land and access rights. Coming from Michigan, the northern forest area is filled with small oil wells. Drive down any trail and you will find one quickly. I don't like hearing them pump, nor do I like coming up on fensing, signs, and warnings to STAY OUT. The land will eventually belong to big oil if we keep giving them every place they want to drill. Nuclear...leaving about 10 miles from a plant. I just LOVE hearing the sirens blowing wildly at 1pm to notify us the nuclear warning system still works. And even better seeing the plumes of smoke coming from the plant...from 40 miles away. Its nice for the local water...Lets see they have dumped (so called SAFE) waste into the lake about 4 times in the last 10 years...stating it is at safe levels and all will be OK. Of course we have the armed guards about 1 mile from the plant...HEY did you know they get FULL auto rifles and orders to shoot if you get too close. Bu8t HEY nuclear stuff is way to damn good to pass up. BTW did you know that the great lakes is the largest body of FRESH WATER in the world. And I think we have about 13-15 nuke plants on it. Hope you like salty water if anything ever goes wrong.

Mr. Wurzelbacher is registered to vote in Lucas County,he is registered as a Republican and if you don't know Lucas County is in Ohio. So,Therefore he is a registered voter.I don't get why these liberals keep interagating Joe as if he was running for president, the only thing Joe did was ask Senator Obama a question and he blew the question. So,Now Joe has detectives coming to his home digging up information about his life. The reason Joe is brought up by Senator McCain is because Joe represents the average Anerican trying to make a life for himself trying to live the America dream.

I am Joe the Plumber...

So Joe the plumber makes $40k per year. He owes back taxes on his property which he hasn't paid. And yet he expects to buy a plumbing company...Which was talked about several years ago in his job Interview...not recently. Oh yeah...and Joe isn't licensed to be a plumber yet he is talking about buying a company...And out of his 40k per year...where is he getting that money to get involved in a business that might make $250k per year profit??? Remember..taxes are on your business profit since expenses are written off.

BTW for the Record indicate that Samuel Joseph Worzelbacher (note the "o" instead of the "u"), with the same street and age as the now famous Joe the Plumber, voted in 2002, 2005 and 2007. But he listed the Natural Law Party as his party.

Bouncy anyone can get on the net and find anything he wants, that say's exactly what he wants it to say. In three or four different places. It doesn't prove anything to throw the same numbers and democratic talking points around. It is my opinion and yes I pay very little in taxes, but I don't want a welfare check from Obama either. I'm a pay "my own way" kinda guy. Not a "get in debt over my head" and then "cry for help" kinda guy. It's all about living in your means. I own all my jeeps, my land, and my trailer so my overhead is kinda low.
I was wondering something. If the republicans are for the rich, and they have to keep them rich to keep getting the votes, than who is for the poor? The Democrats? Well if they are than they have to keep the poor, Poor right? Or the poor will become rich and vote republican and then the dems will fade away right? Think about it Bouncy have you ever got a job from a poor guy? Tax the rich too much and we will all be asking poor people for jobs and more handouts from the oh mighty Obama.
