I have a buddy with a ZJ that just pooped the tranny!! Is there anything that can be done to make this NOT happen again. The reason that I ask, is that I had a 1995 ZJ and it did the same thing!!! ARRRG! They were both 249 t-cases and had, I would think, the same tranny. Any info would be helpful!! Peace out!!

What do you mean "pooped the tranny?"

Do you mean the tranny went bad or that it physically fell out of the rig.

It went out, just like mine did on my ZJ, right after I bought it......AWESOME!!! He's obviously very thrilled to be dropping $1800.00 on a rebuild!! He has only had the ZJ for a couple of months, mine went out three weeks after I bought it!!

I'm very happy with my AW-4, it works great!!

I think that the 42re are just bad transmissions. Mine doesn't want to shift from 2nd to 3rd sometimes when it is cold. Supposedly there is a O ring in there that goes bad. So I'm going to have a freind of mine rebuild it and beef it up. He says that he can make it better and I shouldn't have any more problems.

I heard a rumor that they use the same tranny in Dodge 1 ton trucks, it's just beefed up. That would be a better tranny for the Grand IMHO!! Anyone else heard of this??
