Hey guys, new to the forum... I have a '99 Cherokee Limited that has some interesting issues. Every so often all of the gauges will go dead... it still runs fine, just no gauges.....until recently. Now it will start, go into high idle like usual start up, and then as the rpms come down it dies. It will always start back up, but then it just dies again.

Has anyone got a clue?

I would look into your cps being on its way out, is it throwing any codes?

My tack and spedo quit on me last week,but started working, no probs since then.

As for the tach speedo part I would check for a short in the connection to the gages in the back of the cluster panel.

I haven't had a chance to throw a scanner on it yet, hopefully this weekend. I will probably start with the CPS and see where that takes me. Thanks guys, I'll keep you posted.

Check the grounds...

Mainly the one from the engine to the body....
But also, make check the body to the battery....
CPS is usually all or nothing..... and should have nothing to do with the gauges....

This is just from memory of another jeep that had the same symptoms....​

i would check your grounds, Crank Position Senor, and your Idle Air Control senor.
