Looking at new wheels in the spring. On my 2nd set of steelies, seem to rust badly and only get a 2 or so years out them in Indiana winters. Stick with steel or go to black or Teflon coated aluminum. Lets hear your thoughts and pics of what you have.

Stick with steelies. At least if you bend one of them on the trail you can beat it back out to get you home .cost isn't that bad eather.
this seems to be what everyone says but how often does it actually happen? very rarely i'm sure.

if there's a choice between steelies and black teflon coated wheels, teflon for sure!

Had to do it several times wasn't pretty seen people have to come out of the coods a nd lope to find a wheel that would fit there ride where the aluminum wheel busted and wouldn't hold air.

I was originally going to go steel as well, but then I got a deal I couldn't pass up from a club member for a set of 33's on American Racing aluminum rims. He had already beat them and scratched them up, so I didn't feel bad putting them through more abuse. Aluminum will save you some weight, but am unsure if it is that significant to notice a difference on the trails.

To me it really is all up to what you're willing to spend.

Im running craigers and I will run them again, they are cheap and work well for my uses.
Yep, can't go wrong with Cragers. The price alone makes them worth it. Aluminum rims will be on the higher end of the price scale.

I run the AR Steelies and my old ones are all beat to heck - bent, gouged, and chipped. I wouldn't run alloys for the simple fact that they will fail just as fast but cost more to replace.

I actually just replaced all 4 rims with a new set. I could feel the oval through the axle :brickwall:

i gotta ask this to all the people who say "i run steel cuz ill bend instead of break it"

Just how many alloy wheels have u seen cracked apart, as opposed to steel wheels bent?

in my case, ive seen maybe ONE alloy wheel damaged like that in a major major impact.... see: not normal. and countless steel wheels bent.

tired of that regurgitated info.

I have had Zero issues with any alloy wheel ive ever run, and that goes for many people i know personally as well.

I was going to go with the steel rims just because of the price, $50, but I found the one's I have for $100 and figured for the minimal price increase they were worth it.

If my XJ was mostly a trail rig, then steel for sure.

For street use, I'd say aluminum, any aluminum, or a cheap steel... For wheeling, steel with reinforcements or forged aluminum.

All the el-cheapo rims suck. They're just too light. The reason people have to beat the lip back into place is because it was weak and bent in the first place. This is easily rectified by getting some .500x.500 keystock or 1/2" round rolled into a circle that is the inside diameter of the rim lip, then you just weld the damn thing in there. Or, do a weld on beadlock on the outside lip instead.

It doesn't matter what you buy, it will get scratched.

For those of you saying "steel is over-rated and the old adage of steel bending, aluminum is god, yadda, yadda, yadda" Introduce yourselves to IntrepidXJ here and have Randy tell you his steel rim story....

To the OP... I run steels... I hate aluminum and the CONSTANT refilling on cold winter mornings here, because the damn aluminum rims and tires shrank at different rates and caused low tires...

I saw a series of pics today of your rig. From stock to where it is now. You've already had at least 3 sets of wheels on that yellow beast. You've hit your limit. :D
