Too Old to GAS

Hey boys and girls! Newby here. I had to escape the political forums before I did something regrettable. Me? I’m 65, Stage 4 lung cancer survivor, never smoked. My goal was to take a good Cherokee and cut the back 1/3 roof, keeping the last cross piece. In no welder, so that’s that.

Rock crawling is stupid. It’s like owning a drag car. How much money can you spend on broke parts? Me?, I’m a sand crawler. My rig is totally designed for the coastal sands on North Carolina. If I break something, I gotta wait until my next social security check hits. Know what I mean?

Present project is a Jeeper Camper. I bought a project some kid started but when the baby came, he lost time and interest. His loss, my gain.

Luv it and soooooo easy to work on !!

Hi. Kinda really intimidated. Have an AMC 87 cherokee laredo. Looking for the best reference site for replacement of exterior of jeep. What years are compatible with my 87? Mechanic refers to her as "old rusty". I reply "old Trusty".

Check out this build thread for a meticulous restoration of an 87! Crist_Clapper May be able to give you some good tips on finding quality replacement parts.

But other than the Wagoneer trim level on the early years, body style was essentially unchanged from 84 to 96 so a lot of parts are compatible. There were of course many minor changes to and variants of engines, transmissions, axles, etc, some are direct swaps and some can be considered upgrades, very common to slap parts from later model Cherokees onto older ones.

Just bought #9 tonight, an 01 WJ. Currently have a 98 ZJ TSi, 00 XJ Sport, 02 Liberty Limited and the "new" 01 WJ Laredo. Youngest Daughter has 2 96 XJ's (Sport and Country). She calls them her mountain car and city car. You might say we're a Jeep family.

If I do a 148" lift (figure that should clear most small buildings) do I need to regear if I just keep the stock tires? I want to terrorize the neighborhood, but don't want to spend too much time/money on this. And should I use a fixed ladder, or maybe just a homemade rope ladder? Thanks!
Make sure it is independent suspension, that way you get the clearance in the middle

My serious answer to your joking question is that a rope ladder should be used. I play with combines and tractors for a living and ripping off ladders/steps is fairly common. I've personally damaged a couple.

148" isn't enough lift. Those are rookie numbers, you gotta pump those numbers up!

I vote for the rope ladder too, lol. Easier to pull up into the cab with you 😉
Hallo! My name is Mike and I live In St Paul MN I have a 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport. It is ugly but goes down the trails just fine. 2 inch lift with 31 10.5 tires. Harbor freight winch and ditch lights. I like running into shit so I don't put big dollar parts on her. Where she is rusty I cut that off. I will post some pics when I figure out how.
