I'm just curious as to how much axle wrap is acceptable and how much the pinion should or shouldn't move.

My second question: The more arch in a leaf means more axle wrap or is it the other way around?

My pinion and drive shaft are almost perfectly aligned, with the pinion being a little lower than the driveshaft. I tested it and it moved about an inch up. Is this good or bad? *Note: The angle of the pinion and driveshaft were, as far as I could tell, PERFECTLY straight when under load. Please help me...i'm confused

IMHO, 0 axle wrap is acceptable, but you're gonna have some w/o a traction bar. the softer your leafs are in relation to height, the more wrap you'll have. stock leaves with a 3" blocks = lots of wrap, 3" leaf packs = not so much. bigger arches usually have higher spring rates so that means less wrap. a 8" leaf pack that was as soft as stock in the shape of a half moon would wrap around the world. it depends on a lot. bigger tires also make more axle wrap, higher (numerically) gears but more power down and can create more axle wrap...

I agree, no axle wrap is acceptable. I have it bad and have chewed through 2 D35s this year alone. The pinion bearings let go because of the constant change in angle.

So, when the 8.8 goes in, an anti-wrap bar is soon to follow, NO BLOCKS, and some decent lift springs.

Which anti wrap bar are you going with?

That inch of axle wrap you have probably is related to your 2" blocks you are running. I don't have much, if any, axle wrap on mine. I have OME HD coils with the OME AAL. It's a stiff spring that rides soft...weird huh?

I would say as long as it's parallel when under load, you should be ok. No vibes, no problems. How does it do in reverse?

Probably a home brew based on some tried and tested designs. Depends on how much DOM is when I am ready to build it. Should be a pretty standard set up though - triangulated double bar with pin/bushing on the axle mounts and either a heim or a Johnny with a shackle for the cross-member mount.

There is a shop locally that does them custom for around $300 and they have a great design. I will try and dig up a picture. I will most likely base mine off of theirs.

Does fine in reverse. I know it's weird but i'm glad to hear that it's most likely the blocks. I'm getting rid of those dam things asap. There actually making my leafs twist slightly and making the leaf slide off the bushings and rest against the shackle in back and the unibody in front  :devil:

Ya get rid of those blocks and get some new packs in there. You will notice a significant reduction in axle wrap.

my Jeep USED to have blocks under it and the stress from wrap actually broke the bottom leaf on both springs at the fronts of the blocks, so I quickly ditched them in favor of full spring packs

Wow, how big were the blocks?

I woulda never thought it but just for a temp fix until I got my new springs in I took it to a local spring shop to see if there was anything they could do and I was told that it is actually a common problem with spring over and lift blocks and that most people have a broken leaf that run blocks and just don't know it. They also said the broken leaf could be any of the leafs under the main leaf
