I recently picked up a issue of Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road and it seems to be a well writen magazine but lacks page count(less than 100),I would like to maybe subscribe to a couple of good Off-road mags...So,My question is which Magazines do you guys think are the best?

JP is good. Petersen's has lost me over the years, with every other magazine having a "which lift?" or "which tire?" cover story, and the winner always seems to be the one running the most ads that month.

LowRange is my favorite by far. More in-depth magazine as far as 4-wheeling events, trail reports, etc., not just parts and blowing smoke.

to be honest...i lile them all...yet i hate them all...

its really hard for real people (us) to have a budget of 10k only on axles....i mean...you know what i mean..all of us can afford dana 60 from dynatrac and a we all can afford budget small block swaps and we all can afford 400 bead locks...a piece...i mean they are such softys with all those cheap affordables build that all of us can do in a week...psss...

LowRange FTW! Although, I guess it's more of an East Coast 4x4 magazine. You western yuppies will have to find your own.

JP = Yet another Wrangler with a 350.... meh....

Low Range, J Rations, Crawl all MUCH better than anything Petersen's can crank out(4WOD,JP, 4x4, etc.)

peterson is awesome..only for the ultimate adventure videos...other than that....

this whole "backyard tech" in a budget...is just B.S...

i dont know if you guys are familiar with a magazine call "project car" is a subdivision of a super street(ricer magazine)


they should make a "project rig" magazine..things in a budget...like for real people...i mean once a project in a "BUDGET" goes over 10k...then we lost the meaning of budget....

I got a 2 yr subscription to Petersens for 15.00 so I figured thats not to bad. I also get JP and Four Wheeler.

JP Freak is a great mag too and it is online as well as a print magazine. But I have to admit I enjoy JP and read it cover to cover and get many ideas from it. If you can fab stuff then it is a great source of ideas. Parts that they test are nice to read but as stated the average "Joe the Plumber" can't afford most of their stuff.

I get 4wd & Sport Ute...Decent mag...but they are all too commercial. They have to be in order to survive. Basically any mag that inspires or helps somebody build a rig or hit the trails is a good mag in my opinion!

They never feature XJ's for whatever reason, I really wish they would do so.

and thats what I don't get, they always talk about everyone on the staff has had a XJ or MJ at one point and they love them but apperantly not as much as the Oh So beloved Wranglers:devil:

Cuz our market is dead. Their sponsors would rather have them feature TJs and JKs, because that's the parts they're trying to get out their doors. Not the XJ parts of yesteryear.
