Well I already have the drop in K&N air filter. Still only getting a meager 14 mpg so I decided it was time for some modification. The XK air intake system is crap there is a plastic plate covering the intake as a deflector for air. So I basically took it off to allow air directly into the airbox like it is on my XJ's. I am hoping this will net me a few more MPG. Will update results once I find out.

XK, that's a Commander right? Pull the air inlet tube off the throttle body and snap a pic to post. If it's anything like the ZJ there is a air flow mod you can do.. With teh mod it can give 1-4 mpg based on how you drive..

I have already got it put back together. The Air box in on the pass side. And there was a air inlet tube running to the grill with a deflector on the end of it. I just pulled the deflector off. I don't drive it very often but will post results once I do.

After about a 1 month study my MPG has increase about 1 mpg. Not too worth it now but it was when gas was hi.

I wouldnt say that....

First it was free, right???

So you said it got 14mpg. Now the average milage is 12,000 per year, or so my insurance man says. So you would burn 857.1 gallons a year.

Even using $2.50 a gallon as a measure that would still cost you $2142.75

But if it yielded even a 1 mpg gain... That means you only burn 800 gallons per year at $2.50 per gallon is $2000.

So a savings of $142.75 at 12,000 miles per year and $2.50 per gallon.

Pretty darn good for a total cost of free.

lets forget about MPGs, the gas is low again, and it does not matter if your MPG is low or not, it does not hurt to put in 30 bucks and fill up you tank when just a few months back you needed about 75 or so...:D

Not really.....

My XJ on 33's with 3.55 has the 4.0l and a AW-4 It gets about 13 mpg when I was street driving it.

My ZJ on street tires with 3.73 and the AWD gets about 15-16mpg...

Unfortunatly this is the kind of thinking that will help drive prices back up again.:(

Thanks for that Whowey I knew i would save a lil but it does look like alot more when you combine the whole year. I just hit 30,000 miles so I am below the 12,000 a year mark. But I have put 15,000 on my XJ since I bought it 10 months ago
